Thread regarding Sears layoffs

If everyone gives 120 percent we can pull thru this. If we had this doom and gloom outlook in 1942 we would have lost the war!

I may just be a rank and file employee, but I have a lot invested in sears. Sears has been good to me and my family and it hurts us how people have lost faith in a great American institution. My kids love sears, and they work there now. I have even taken my kids on vacation to see other sears stores, ones with escalators! They remember those trips fondly. They were born and bred sears. We used to make it happen back in "the day". We gave it 125 percent, nothing less. the new employees don't care and that's the issue.

I have worked for Sears for a long time, you know what has changed? The employee attitude. We never used to have trouble selling MA's or PA's. Its a value added benefit to our members that sells itself if we correctly inform them about the value of the agreement. When you have an employee that don't believe in the product then you cant sell the product and you are doing our members and the customer a disservice.

Maybe I am old fashioned, but instead of smoking and joking on my lunch period or rest periods I go the extra mile and take it upon myself to clean a bathroom, or replace burnt out bulbs in light fixtures, or make some fresh mop water. Then I come back from my rest period with a smile on my face and assist members to get the best value for their dollar by getting them on board our fantastic rewards program. It sells itself!

A customer goes to sears, gets a 50 dollar tool, we sell them a protection agreement which no one in their right mind would pass up if its presented properly, then we get them on board with a sears charge. They save money on their sears purchase and then go to the lumberyard and buy lumber and save yet more money, then they go for a bite to eat and save more money, then they gas up the truck and save more money.

By the end of the day their protection plan was free when you take into account their savings elsewhere from doing nothing more than they normally do.

I don't understand this doom and gloom attitude, things are bad, or are they? I see opportunity where others see doom. Its not hard to be one of the best employees in the store right now, and don't think that your DM wont notice.

I know a lot of folks here don't like Eddie mostly because there has been a lot of misinformation spread about him. Just think of the money he has lost out on by staying with sears, he has even poured his own money into it. Eddie is a visionary and he sees the future many others cant see. I feel since Eddie has stuck by us we owe it to him to stick with sears.

As JFK said, Its not what your country can do for you, it what you can do for your country. See the mindset we have now? What can sears do for me? People steal pens, toilet paper, you name it.

I on the other hand come in 1 hour early for my shift and stay one hour late. If everyone would just give a little extra we could turn this great company into the next Amazon.

hey rick,

the purchase agreements are not a good deal... Read the fine print. Have you read the reviews or the Facebook post or even the Sears sight on how much hassle it is for someone to get something fixed. And don't get me started on the exclusions. The credit card is a joke. Rewards are in SYW points and the deal ends in 12 months. Once again look at the exclusions and fine print. It is data mining pure and simple. Get peoples information and sell it to third parties. Now go get us some fresh mop water.

OP:

"has dumped hundreds of millions of his own money to keep this thing afloat, "

He should have put the money to good or better use by INVESTING in the stores and online business to PREVENT the sinking - but..... his ONLY interest was the real estate itself & the h e l l with the stores. I started using Amazon wayyy back in the 1995-96 timeframe and knew then that was the wave of the future - no more driving to malls 5, 10, or15 miles away, no more parking hassles, no more waiting in line to checkout at a register, no more frustrations w/ inept shoppers in lines & fitting rooms, free shipping (with minimum order was no big deal), free returns (no questions asked), price comparison shopping etc... etc...

I've been to a department store twice in last 20 yrs and determined I really don't need them -

Someone is / was out of touch with reality and it sure ain't me

OP, you have no clue whats really going on here, big picture. Sears is only around this long because it is being propped up at great cost and losses, so that its fall can be timed correctly to coincide with the real financial collapse.

You can give 200% and so could everyone else and it would change nothing. Time to wake up and smell the Java. take your head out of your butt and look around at whats going on in the nation.

What I did to help the situation was get out with my pride and my mental state intact. You have obviously lost both some time ago. Best move I ever made. Making twice the money with half the stress, working with a company that respects and appreciates their employees.

I respect the work ethic OP. When I started working at SHC 2 years ago I did the same. I believe in hard work and would easily work an extra 2-3 hours more at the office each day and the equivalent at home (that's an extra 2 days a week I worked when I didn't have to) I don't do that anymore. My leaders only care for themselves or are non-existent, bullying is rampant and s-xism prevalent, associates come and go as they please working 3 day weeks, the office environment is toxic and filthy, there is no investment in employees be it in the form of financial incentive, development support or investment in our stores, there is absolutely no respect from the top down, the work environment is in complete decay from top to bottom, my colleagues are being laid off, the company being sold of bit by bit with no future, why sacrifice my extra time when the reward is that? The extra 6 hours a day i used to give to SHC I now devote to my family, I miss working hard though but I see no reason to when faced with the above.

Rick here.

Let me explain something to you people, Eddie has dumped hundreds of millions of his own money to keep this thing afloat, If he was in it for himself he would have bailed years ago. Its not his fault that sears was forced to try and compete with online retailer that until recently got to sell product without charging sales tax.

You know what Eddies salary is? 1.00 Yep 1.00 Sure he gets some stock each month but the stock will be worthless if this operation fails. Eddie is possibly working for free, dumping his own money into the operation.

I read a lot of comments here on this board complaining about selling agreements or getting members signed up for credit. We are doing our members a great disservice if we do not take the time to properly explain the benefits of these money saving programs. Anyone with any common sense can see that it is a no brainer to get a credit card. Sears wins, the member wins and ultimately the employee wins.

I started at the bottom just like Eddie. I look to the man to learn. You think he got where he is by having a bad attitude? Everyone expects overnight results, you have to teach a child how to put on the helmet before you teach them how to ride the bike. Steps people. Steps.

Ask yourself, What have YOU done to help the situation?

This drivel don't suprise me. Our DM has made comments hinting around about us coming in on our own time and cleaning the store. No pay no stay eddie!

Our store manager has been trying to be a hero by turning off lights in the backroom and bathrooms and other nonsense.

Haha for those of you who are questioning if this poster is real or fake I'd say he's definitely fake. Every single point made in this post is the EXACT opposite of what actually happens....

This site has gotten out of hand. I wish the moderators would start deleting this stuff. I'm sick of trying to figure out people "jokes" and what's real or what is someone's "mood" for the day. OP you have WAY to much time on your hands.

The gall of trying to compare the situation of SHC to the nation in 1942... If we were to attempt to match equivalencies, we'd have to change history around a bit. Let's say that for the US to have been in as poor condition as SHC at the time, the Germans would already have conquered England, Barbarossa would have already succeeded, our carrier fleet would have been knocked out with the battleships at Pearl Harbor, our manufacturing capabilities would be nil, our armed forces would be cut to maybe a quarter of their previous strength, and German and Japanese amphibious craft are already staging just off the coasts. Yeah, that would be just about how bad it would have to have been to even begin to compare what this company has become to 1942.

Wow to have that kind of enthusiasm after being treated the way we have been treated. You have to be eddie. Why we are all grateful for employment, your employer needs to give something back for all your hard work. Working without raises for 9 years, cutting the help to nothing, working without air and heat, and doing 10 jobs can take that enthusiasm out of you. Yes Eddie gave us employment, and we once did give him way more than 100%. In my opinion those who once had that dedication have kept sears and kmart stay in business as long as they have. Yes we do hold Eddie accountable for destroying 2 great American icons. His vision has been nothing but greed.

I think we would give 120% if we had an incentive to do so. WIth no raises for the last 9 years what is the incentive to work hard-- we could do as you say and we would still make the same as a new hire. I don't know about you but I work to make money to feed my family and pay bills. They call it work because you are to be paid for your labor at a fair price. I would also give 120% if the company would give even 50% in helping us do our jobs. How about the company invest in some new equipment, new registers, new fixtures, new paint, flooring, lighting. It is hard to give 120% when you have equipment that doesnt work half the time. It is hard to give 120% when the store you work in is a hazard to your and the customers safety. It is hard to give 120% when you see a company that has given up and is just trying to last a few more months. It is hard to give 120% when every time a new program comes out there is a massive push, with massive amounts of cash and time invested, only to have it die in a few months until the next "big" thing comes along. It is hard to believe in a company when the company doesn't even believe in itself.
