Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

If QCOM want to survive, upper management should have major clean-up.

all oldies with 10+ years in qcom, waiting to be thrown with fat severance package.

They don't care about company, just sitting on top with hope of severance package.

they have lost mental stability, they dont remember what was discussed 1 hour before, they cannot make decisions and waste time calling endless meetings for same agenda.

they have big fat ego and cannot see anyone raising voice against their idiotic plans. they screw anyone who talk sense

they are living with outdated management style which is proven failure and needs change.

lickers take advantage of this situation by satisfying boss ego, by b--ching against guys whom boss dont like.boss in turn keep lckers happy without accomplishments.

One clear example is QCT Quality team, they are pushing the good engineers to quit or move to other groups as they cannot provide good guidance neither have technical background, these folks are just skin color based principals, directors and VP's.

I agree.. management is useless and cant make decisions in time. if at all they make decisions it would ruin everyone and is generally bad decision.

@2cuz:. "most of the angry posts on this site are from the low tier employees"

Not really.. some of them and I would guess a lot folks in SD, a LOT from QCT. I know managers there who seem to get away belittling and berating employees/subordinates openly in labs with all other peers.

These idiot managers don't posses the decency to take the person aside and have private conversation away from other folks. Managers berate subordinates furiously in meetings near everyone...

I knew a senior director (glad he was kicked out in the first round of layoffs in sept 2015), who always spoke to the team in a very condescending manner. Always prefixing his conversations with"you guys are all seniors not kids and should know better", refusing to acknowledge any good work but penalize for any minor issues. He seemed to believe that recognition for good work was unnecessary via words. Jerk was horrible to all, always in foul mood and taking out his frustrations on employees. Very emotionally abusive to folks. Picking on people's personality quirks. I heard alot of employees refused to interact with him directly and only dealt with him through their leads. Can't believe he is a VP in another company now.

In Qcom, you will be penalised in your performance review when you stand up against your supplier for quality issue. You are suppose to treat them like your partners and friends and peers and parents. You are suppose to be nice guy, impecably polite as per PTE.....So, what can you do? Facilities information exchange between suppliers and qcom internal team.

We are in the situation where we need our customer like Apple, Samsung, OPPO etc to tell us that our suppliers are bad, and please shut them down. We can't figure out and refused to believe that they are bad. The sourcing team and quality team moved to protect the interest of suppliers and their jobs....so we need our customer to tell us what's going wrong.

To all critiquing English: I am very surprised " "smart" people like you don't get the main idea. Keep doing your useless work and time will come and you will be layoff and no company will ever hire you.

I think most of the angry posts on this site are from the low tier employees in India or possibly the fresh H1Bs brought in to do the dirty, ugly grunt work. The writing quality certainly suggests that.

And before you say I am some kind of Trump supporting, xenophobic racist, I know a lot of smart, educated people from or in India, and they can speak and write better than most native Americans.

I am somewhat appalled at the poor command of English from the supposedly -English-Educated posters on this site. I am a senior at Qualcomm who has been to around 13 companies in my career before my last company was acquired br Qualcomm. Had someone not had a better command of English in the past, they would be severely limited in their career, as I would be if I tried to compete in China or India. Every country wants their workers to be fluent in their language, but America may be too accepting of those who are not willing to blend into American culture and language...

The next step is to cut all ppl in 40s. They are useless anymore after burned out. The management will replace all these zombies with fresh h1b. They are more cheap and just out boat.

I think all of you are missing a point that in order to solve a problem the first step to acknowledge and accept that there is a problem. Guess who's responsibility is to do that?

There should be limit on number of directors, sr.staff , any team can have.

i know one team of 30 headcount in Gfx HW , it has 1 Sr.Director, 2 Directors, 12 Sr.Staff, 11 Staff.

Promotion criteria should be made very strict from Sr.Staff onwards. if people want to leave because they are not getting promoted, let them go. Hire Junior engineers to keep average age still less.

oldies become complacent and start thriving on bad politics, licking, creating fight between engineers.

Audit the number of overseas travel. Senior employees are misusing Qualcomm funds which is affecting everybody . Why does one need to travel so much when new technology like video conferencing is available. There are people who travel to India china once every 2 months. Basically using Qualcomm fund to visit home and misusing the facilities

15+ years at Qualcomm. Can't wait for my generous severance then find new rewarding position elsewhere.

Yes. They should put a limit on the max number of years or on the lumpsum amount one can get as a severance... else these loser complacent old timers keep sticking around till they are laid off...

Serious, VP that don't even deserve that title (almost all home grown VPs), end up twiddling their thumb waiting for their "retirement" package.
