Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How do you deal with frustration?

Just curious how people are dealing with frustration? I guess this is same situation in all of the oil and gas patch. I tried workout, eating a lot and trying to be more helpful but everyday is a struggle. I question why I should work in this company any longer other than for money. This used to be such a great company and so sad that it turned to this hell.

After reading this I walked around the floor today and saw the following as I passed people in their offices:

1 person looking at linkedin

1 person looking at some sort of real estate website

3 people, door closed, laughing at some video involving cats

2 people, door closed, having very serious conversation, looking sad

1 person laying on their floor, either napping or thinking.

1 person who was at their computer, but likely asleep.

1 manager, who was working on a spreadsheet, too tiny to see.

1 admin, who has figured out how to paint her nails while staring at her computer screen. She actually does this without looking. Impressive.

I guess this is it

Agree with the poster who suggested they have PTSD. After the second big round of layoffs I started having PTSD, or at least feel like I can relate to it. How much torture can endure, always wondering if you're next. Seeing good people cut while backstabbing game-playing $&@ are retained. Watching management repeat same stupidity again and again. At some point you just go numb and can't play the corporate game anymore. I tuned out after the second round. After round 3 it's hard not to just walk off the job. Despise this place, but what other choice do I have?

I handle my frustration by jacking off. While this is frowned upon at work, I do feel my frustration level significantly decrease immediately after I'm finished with the job at hand. 😀

I don't think I've given anything here a full 100% since the second layoff in 2015. I sat in my office for six months with no meaningful work in 2015. I actually worked a puzzle on my pull out keyboard tray for weeks which I would push back under my desk when I left to go home. There were weeks in the office when I spoke to no one, answered 2-3 emails, and went home at the end of the day. There's more work now, I sometimes work really hard, and I am grateful, but there's a part of me that just wants to sit and stare and doesn't care any longer. I feel like I have PTSD but feel guilty because at least I have a job. So many of my friends were let go that I feel like I have an obligation to do a good job but just cannot. I'm sorry.

I don't want to work for COP anymore, but I need the pay check. Not a fun place to work anymore. In Canada, there are no so few options for rotations, the staff is demoralized and to have to wait another 2 months to see how this is all going to shake out is painful. Could be worse, I guess, but Hatfield will have his hands full getting the remaining folks on board, even if the goal is to build up what's left for a sale. So sad. So many good people here.

I spend my time advocating for a new position where I could do real work and add value, although some days (most) it appears those roles no longer exist in COP. Agree with you - this place is a shell of its former self. I'm planning to let asset sales dust settle and then bail if there's still no meaningful change. Take your fate into your own hands and start networking; beats watching YouTube all day!

Day by day. My productivity and focus have been down the crapper since the last round. I just can't seem to focus, care, or get things done. I fear it's obvious, and I'm probably now a target for round 9 or whatever it is now, but just can't seem to paint the smile on my face and trudge through.

I make brownies with cake mix and call them crownies. It helps until I finish them off.
