Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Dysfunctional

So it all started yesterday when the auto center manager asked me, the AACM, to reprice the shelves because we hadn't done so since December. In December, I had taken it upon myself to learn how to it and asked FLS for help. There used to be a guy who's job that was but he quit and no one has been rehired.

No one even cares about auto. We keep ourselves and watch the circus. Other than the guys in appliances who use our bathroom every day we don't deal with FLS much as than the cash office which is a mess. What is going on back there I wonder but I digress. It is NOT our job to reprice items. It is not in my job description. My job is help customers with their cars.

I don't think my manager was out of line with asking me to recheck prices after almost four months. That is reasonable but I warned him that obtaining a FUNCTIONAL SNC and label printer was likely going to cause an issue. I had forgotten how to use one but I tracked one on my FLS pals and he hooked me up with a working SNC (half of them don't work) and refreshed my memory. Pretty easy stuff really. No problems right. WRONG!

I started scanning and repricing. The first thing I scanned was the wrong price. The little printer thing spits out a nice new price tag and I apply it. I move on. I kept moving on for about ten minutes and I found a lot of incorrect prices and corrected them never knowing that I was a jerk. My FLT guy who hooked my up came back and stated, "She is really mad that you have that SNC and I have to get it back but I will give you a few more minutes". He did so. She is the FLS ASM. I have never had a problem with her before. I do now I guess.

It gets better and even more petty. This morning, I had to open. For some arcane reason no one from auto has a key so we have to ring in the door. If you work for Sears you understand why. You can only ring in on the 50's, i.e 7:50 AM, 8:50 AM and 9:50. Auto opens at 8 A.M.. Because of this policy, I only have around seven minutes to throw the breakers in three different fuse panels, unlock the overhead doors and service doors, throw the breaker to start the air compressor, get the cash of the safe, (we have our own safe) and do the start of day counting of the till and deal with the first customer of the day.(auto has customers) Then I remember that I forgot to punch in because I am salaried non-exempt. I can't function that quickly and do a good job. No one cares.

This morning, I did my usual routine in walking up the merchandise pick-up door. That only think that was different was that appliance folks had arrived and I found that odd so I rang the buzzer. Usually, I have to wait a long time. The door opened and was Ms. ASM and she sternly admonished, "Don't you EVER do that again. I was standing right here." My first thought was "why didn't the door then". I can't see in there for all of the postings.

All I said was, "Maybe I'll never come here again". Never even looked at her. I am an assistant manager just as much as she is. She does not outrank me. The appliance boys and two of my techs saw it all and they LOVED IT. I guess I did what they wish they could do.

The sad thing is that I can make everyone laugh. I have made MS ASM laugh before. Half the store comes just to see what I say next. Some people are afraid of that I think. It probably helps that I read every single thing about SHLD I can and have for a long time. It is easy to see how this will end up. Store closures and no BK in July. Too many warranties and no buyers of liability.

I bought my crew pizza today as treat. But not delivery. One of them had to go get the pizzas.

I don't rely a Sears paycheck to live. A lot of people do though. I can understand the frustration. I'll never get promoted. I am trouble maker because I like to make my customers happy and my charges happy. Corporate merica[SIC] doesn't like that but the peter principle ensues.

Who do you want on your side? The Pebble Creatures of Hoffman or me? Who is correct?

When I worked at Sears, my morning comic relief was to visit the "Pebbles" site. Absolutely hilarious. The best of the best postings were the older female employees, many in senior management, who would "post" photos of themselves -- except the photos were of much-younger women. Or, women who at once were, ummmmmm, slimmer in stature.

Gee, for most of my life, I thought only Department of Motor Vehicles photos were "doctored." Anyway, that Pebble thing at Sears was just great. Much better than Saturday Night Live, at times. The phonies, self-promoters, and photo-shop people on Pebbles will be greatly missed !

I know what it is about. Nothing working.

Feeling harrased.

Not being able to just do your job.

Why am I here?

Archaic equipment.

Feel ya.

I have had to open my department with a start time of 10 am, the same time the store opens. I work in the tool department. It is embarrassing when I have customers running in to get a tool as we open and they are ready to check out before my registers have completed the boot up.

They want you to leave your brains at home, I guess. That's why Sears is going down the tubes.

Sorry to tell you guy but she does outrank you and most auto center general managers actually make less than ASMs at FLS... as to what this post is about no one ever knows. I entretain myself with the nonesense when auto center associates post on this site.
