Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon / Terramark

Remember this billion-with-a-B-acquisition?

It signaled that cloud was here in a major way, and caused industry analysts and veterans alike to sit up and take note that a disruptive new technology was here to stay.

The acquisition took place in 2011, was rebranded to Verizon e-Cloud around 2013 or so, and quietly shuttered in 2016.

Anyone remember the "internal cloud" another huge waste of time lol. Terramark had some decent tech for it's time however they underestimated both internal and external hardware needs. Finally once vz got in inovative idea there basically stopped and the brain drain began

Terremark was about getting the 'NAP of the Americas' in Miami to make it easier for the NSA to vacuum up traffic inbound from Latin America

When the new VES CIO was appointed, at one of the town halls he was asked about VZ's cloud strategy, by someone I think came from Terramark. The answer was basically that "that ship had sailed" (i.e. VZ wasn't going put a lot of effort competing with AWS etc by becoming a cloud provider) and that they should add values in other ways. To be fair, he wasn't at VZ when the buy decision was made.
