Thread regarding Huawei layoffs

How Huawei US employees are treated?

Huawei being Chinese company I have my own doubts about your genuine chances to grow in the company if you are not Chinese. On top, I am sure Huawei work culture must be shocking for the folks who have worked for Western companies entire their career. Candid opinion would help.

I am based in EMEA and I was approached in 2015 by Huawei recruiters for a senior architect position. My ethnicity is Asian (Indian), but not Chinese. I was "briefed" many times by the recruiter about importance of "Asian Culture" inside of Huawei and during the interview process; how important it is to speak English slowly to the Chinese bosses during the fateful phone interview . The phone connection from China was horrible, you could hear packet drops every second. After a few questions, I thought the interviewer was asking me if I have ever worked with "ISDN". I was flummoxed! Said AFAIK ISDN is dead technology for the last 14-15 odd years. Post the call, the recruiter, who was Chinese (of course) and was also logged into the call, came back to me said the question was relevant to SDN and not ISDN :-). She had the grace to apologise for the bad connection and state of English of the interviewer. Needless to say I withdrew my application.
