Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

XMM7560 lost its only customer!

So apparently, Apple has no intention of using XMM7560 next year. Rumor from several sides is that they were supposed to sign an MoU regarding XMM7560 last year, but that signing kept being postponed. Now Apple has flat-out stated that they are not going to sign it until Intel has proven that that the platform will fulfi all KPIs - which is completely impossible.

At the same time, Apple has stated that they have plans for a possible 2018 iPhone without Intel modem, and they are quoted as saying "It's no longer our Plan B, it's our Plan A" now.

So XMM7560 is a product without customer. F--- this sh--! Not that we didn't see it coming.

I am updating my CV.

Spot on. Murthy was brought on to be the hatchet man: expedite the transformation of Intel's business and culture, which in BK's reptile brain means layoffs, cuts, poaching more people from Qualcomm and buying shiny objects.

What will be interesting is how it will be spun when this "strategy" fails and Murthy tries to make his case to be CEO. I'd assume something along the lines of "I was just following orders..."

@2ewj - I agree that his salary was too steep, but an outsider with no long-term internal ties is desperately needed to cut thru the BS. There is no internal executive that could make the necessary decisions to right the ship.

@2hjv -- The company didn't need to pay multiple millions of dollars to Murthy. Simply wielding a hatchet it pretty simple. It doesn't require an outsider. And fewer cuts would have been needed without his bloated salary on the books.

Remember that Aicha said she was leaving, and was then bought off with promises and titles (and $$). While others (like KS) before her actually left the company with their dignity intact, Aicha remained, now devoid of any credibility whatsoever.

Another perspective on Murthy - he was brought in to do a hatchet job - and while he is much maligned on this board and elsewhere, he may be the ONLY executive who is actually doing his or her job.

I am not aware of any replacement for Aicha. Implies some bigger change in organization.

The fact that Aicha was "promoted" to a position completely outside of Murthy's org is another strong point that proves this info is correct. Expect big layoffs in iCDG now that the fatso hatchet man is free to do as he pleases with the division.

Ok, if you think I am a troll stop reading! :-)

1) I am pretty sure this information comes for Intel inside.

2) Whether it is correct or what it implies is a different story.

3) Ashraf writes well founded analysis on Fool, but he is not always right. In particular his first analysis regarding romors of Intel modem inside iPhone 7 was wrong.

4) Murthy announcement: Stopping Intel's mobile ambitions would be good news for the shareholder. Of course bad news for the involved employes (espcially former Infineon guys...)

Apple is totally greedy. All supplier should unite to say "no" to apple.

@1fim- "if he chose to publish that is just because it is credible" No, he referenced the Layoff.com and "credible" from the Layoff.com do not go hand in hand. This board is infested with trolls that post fake news, lies, and opinions. Who's to say that the resident Qualcomm troll did not post it? Anyone who has visited this board knows to take what is posted with a grain of salt.

If he chose to publish that is just because it is credible. Intel modem is clearly inferior to the Qualcomm modem. Apple reputation was tarnished by using a subpar modem.

@1cdg- he lost any credibility he had using this board as a source or rumor mill.

Ashraf covers semiconductors, he's well respected and mostly balanced. He's covering this thread in the article - here is the link... Congrats OP, you've got covered in a major news outlet...

To Ashraf's credit, he called this source 'sketchy'. He probably would have been more accurate with a stronger word.

Ashraf Eassa has picked up this post and it is now in mainstream media. I hope whoever posted has authentic info. Otherwise it is pretty reckless post.

@1fjm CV is the correct format - longer and more detailed. When I applied in Germany they requested my CV: curriculum vitae

You need to update the resume not CV dude. Intel is a company not a University.

"Intel University" is not accredited either.

Rumor is that at least half of iCDG will get kicked out.

Without the only customer, iCDG is heading for deep trouble. Expecting massive lay-offs.

No body wants to work with Apple except Intel. Qualcomm shows Apple who is the boss.

The only way to work with Apple and makes money is telling them "take it or leave it" like Qualcomm , Samsung and Avago.
