Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

KPMG Expat Tax Filing for Laid-Off Employees

Older expat employee that was "retired" last April in the ESP. Any advice on filling out my last tax filing through KPMG or planning for future issues?

@jkux, Read back through the thread, schmuck. The expat is no longer an employee of Chevron. He was brought back and laid off. In other words, he got screwed. Damn right, the refund is his now. He owes the company the same poke in the a-- he received. To the affected ex-employee, my advise is get the CPA to file your taxes, forget about KPMG. Keep your refund and fear not about Chevron. It's small potatoes the amount you are getting and they won't pursue you. If you have doubts, just bank the refund for one year. The statute of limitations for a claim of owed money runs out.

@iosh, Yes you are so right. They will never find out. And you better hope they don't "Forget about giving the refund back" as you said, even though it's their money that THEY(CHEVRON) paid in on your behalf. You can easily get away with STEALING that money from Chevron, you employer. Just hope that no one catches you. It's not fraud at all, in your own mind. It's only fraud if you fall under the delusion that taking something that doesn't belong to you and belongs to someone else and that you have no right to is fraud. Good luck with your life as a dishonest, immoral thief with no morals or character. Sleep well, dear......

Tax Fraud is when you cheat the IRS. No one is cheating the IRS, schmuck. A tax refund is an amount the IRS owes you. Forget about giving the refund back to Chevron like the d!cks at KPMG would do. Fill out the tax forms yourself and have your CPA file it for you. Pay your CPA for his services and keep your refund. You earned it, so keep it. Believe me that Chevron won't even bother you. They won't even know they should be expecting anything.

If you commit tax fraud, I'm pretty sure Chevron and their lawyers will be the least of your worries - ROTFLMMFAO IDIOT!!!

@ibue, Chevron laid off this ex-employee. Sure he can have it both ways. He got "scruuud" by Chevron, now let him "scruuu" Chevron back. Go ahead, my friend, and let your CPA file the tax return. If you feel apprehensive about possible repercussions, just bank your refund for one year. If Chevron wants it back so bad, they will contact you. I doubt very much they will.

Jena, hcps... remember Chevron paid all your foreign tax liability. You can't have it both ways.

-hemq, You just said what I would do. Use the completed tax return and associated forms prepared by the KPMG accountants and fill out your own tax return exactly as they did. Take everything to your own CPA to verify and sign. Pay your CPA for his services and file the tax return. It's your refund. Keep it.

KPMG just sent me my taxes to sign . There is a rather large refund due to be received. If I sign and return CVX will gain it. I am debating to sign or just file on my own and receive the refund to me - consider it and additional severance or bonus.....I welcome any thoughts.

If you were an expat and took a package mid year 2016, prepare to open your wallet as you will be underwitheld to the tune of several $k due to the severance payment and its impact on theoretical tax due. Trust me, I just got my reconciliation statement today!

I'd trust going into a H&R Block and paying for their services rather than getting anything for free from KPMG. Big name with questionable standards.

Christ, that's not surprising to hear, 2urj. KPMG has a long and notorious history of accounting improprieties. Look up KPMG on Wikipedia.org for a short synopsis of the more egregious cases. Amazing these people are still in business. I wouldn't hire them.

A employee laid off last year said he was being audited and KPMG wouldn't represent him.

Kpmg is required to complete your taxes one year after being repatriated, in order to maximize CVX benefits to the company.
