GTT has a long history of acquisition (Megapath, Unsi, Packet Exchange) and the latest is Hibernia Networks. As ever, the acquisition is followed by a brutal round of layoffs affecting all areas of the business. The ever increasing customer base is supported by dwindling levels of specialists of all types and at all levels. One area where GTT goes not seem to cut is the number of VPs and SVPs which is out of all proportion to the number of engineers.

Dwindling levels of specialists at all levels is right. Four years after the Hibernia mess, my team is still stretched about as thin as possible. We're still hurting from the engineers we lost back then, and since then some of the remainder have bailed for greener pastures and others have died; nobody has been brought on to replace any of them. One by one, we are withering away.
