Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Michael Dell Cares?

I find it funny (and rather sad) that people on this board say that Michael Dell has good intentions, and that he cares etc.....

Having worked for Dell for 15 years, and having spent 30 years in the Hi-Tech industry, I can honestly say that Michael Dell is no better than the majority of the Hi-Tech CEO's. He cares about himself, and his image, and nothing else. His ego is even larger than the debt he has taken on, and having made a fool of himself and his company through one bad step after another, finally took it private so as to remove scrutiny from the stock holders. Dell hasn't had an original idea in many years, taking the trail of fast followers, which means he copies what others have done first, and then tries to play catch up against real technology companies. The purchase of EMC was just another example of trying to catch up, but EMC itself has such outdated technology that it too will fail. Dell is a very unstable house of cards, and is doomed to fail unless MD finally grows some cajones and really restructures the company, including reducing the workforce by at the very least 1/3rd, cleans house of the good old boy network of cronies, and quits cutting his experienced engineering teams to save a buck. 5-10 years from now (if not sooner), they will join the ranks of the many failed Hi-tech companies that have fallen by the wayside due to mismanagement and their unwillingness to keep up, and invest in , new technologies

Not sarcastic in the least. We are a real technology company (rated as one of the top three companies in 2016 for Cybersecurity products). We make real technological breakthroughs instead of building commodity servers designed by someone else, outdated storage systems, and PCs, and whose only claim to fame is a long outdated supply chain. Dell's last innovation happened while he was still in his dorm room selling hard drive kits as "PC's Limited".

Is that why Facebook, AMZN, MSFT are taking R&D on their own , you talk about innovation, except most see it as re engineering. Have you worked at FOXCONN?

Contracts of employment tend to be one-sided. Not always, but usually.

Because of the existence of one-sided contracts there is a general rule that any ambiguities in a contract are to be resolved against the party that created the wording of the contract. In this case, the contract implicitly embodies the legal restrictions on free overtime.

So in this case - if the contract was drawn up by the employers' lawyers then the employers lose. But if the contract was drawn up by the drivers' Trade Union then the drivers lose. It is all a matter of which party authored the contract of employment. And rightly so, if the employers want to win such cases they should force the drivers' union to draft the contracts of employment.

So where do you stand . Corporations make the rule. Learn the law , don't be ignorant.

EMC has always been the good ole boy company.

Managers now that work for dell are the same way.

I can say that as I saw it and dealt with it first hand.

The guy that says bring value. I did more productive work than anybody in the job title I had.

But I am also at a great company outside of Dell / EMC.

It does not matter what you do or how much you do it is whether or not you are on your knees at the hand of your boss..

MD might say he is for the people and a diverse company trust me he is not. And when he can't pay back the 2 billion a quarter we will all see what happens next.

I am happy and have been employed at a real technology company for the last two years. The difference is we are leaders in innovation and recognized for it.

Wow, real technology? Hope you were being sarc in your statement.

Will be interesting when the debt needs to be serviced to payback to Investors. Most folks on the board are unaware or maybe about fixed costs. Suggest sitting in on conference calls to see where your jobs is going to be eliminated.

Agreed. I saw it all the time at EMC, most of the management team's knees were raw. You can always tell the good ole boy club members because the knees of their trousers are worn out but that's a small price to pay for job stability. Hear Dell is no different.
