Trader Joes really seems to be a good place to work for lower-pay clerk/stocker jobs; I've talked to workers there. I'd bet they pay entry-level a bit above min. Surely you couldn't support a single-income family on working there except maybe a GM+. The perspective also depends on what city they're located. Where I live (KC) that's probably the best place to get that kind of job, because most of the other places are lower paying sweatshops.

I have had many friends over the years who work(ed) at H&R Block (based in KC) and it used to be a great place to work but they've been going downhill ever since they got themselves stretched too far around the 2008 economic collapse. A current worker friend told me they "now have Indians all over the place". So much for home-town support.

Sponsored rankings... Companies plan for this and want to be on the list.

Intuit has monthly layoffs, Cisco has had massive annual layoffs for 5 years in a row. Starbucks is, well, Starbucks - go have a cup of coffee there and you'll see what's going on behind the counter.

In-N-Out Burger pays managers well, restaurant employees here in Cali make slightly above min wage.

HR Block has 80% of people working there for 4 months or less, contract and transient - they want to be on this list to attract folks. Halloween Store, the same...

TJs and Wegman are cool, low pay but good benefits.

Chick-Fil-A is min wage for pretty much every single restaurant worker.

This list is nothing more than an advertising stint...

Cisco looks really out of place on that list.

I'd bet the employees of Cisco would question that article. Just go read their layoff thread. They sound no different than any other giant tech firm these days like IBM.
