Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Everyone is here for the MONEY (x-post from Intel's board)

Intel is a dino-tech company. We've tried to dip our feet into services and consumer products, but we can't get it done. We're terrible at it. The decades of 'bozo explosion' managers have left us with silos and duplication across all orgs. This company will get what it deserves, to shrink down to the chip company which is the only thing it CAN be. Data company? Get real. We're a decade behind Amazon and MS now. We'll drop that stuff soon. We'll make fast chips - until we get out-innovated there too.

We're all here for one of two reasons:

THE MONEY - You are overpaid and there's no way you'll get that amount on the outside. So you stay, hoping to squeak by until retirement somehow. But you secretly know you'll be called into that meeting room some Monday out of the blue.

FEAR - The only thing scarier than getting layed-off is having to try to get a job on the outside. Your years and years of PPT decks and BS strategy ideas aren't worth a damn on the OUTSIDE - and you secretly know it. So you wait. And hope. Maybe you can squeak by. Maybe. But you know that another year of staying with Intel is staying decades behind the new businesses that are eating our lunch. Will your skills be relevant anymore? Should you force yourself to leave now so that you can even work in the tech industry for another decade or two? Good ole fear will tell you what to do.

Intel has so much labor to cut it's not even funny. They will slowly slice and cut and cancel their way back to being what Murthy and BK know. We're just a chip company.
