Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

How do they do layoffs (HR?)

All - a quick question here - I’m very nervous, I have never been laid off before.

But, if it’s gonna be another round, I am fairly certain I’m gonna be on the to-be-eliminated list.

Noting firm, just have that horrible gut feeling, you know.

Does someone know how they usually do it?

Are you being called to a meeting in a small conference room?

With HR only? How long does it usually take for the whole thing to be over?

Thank you for attending this conference call. If you're lucky enough to be on this call your last day will be 8/14 and if you promise not to sue Allstate then we will give you 2 weeks pay for every year you've been here. Due to advances in technology we will continue to revisit our staffing model as we feel needed. Thank you and have a good day! (Are you in good hands?)

Unfortunately this layoff that just occurred was done in a very impersonal and abrupt manner which is why I think so many people are upset. It wasn't based on performance, there was no prior warning. Basically a notice the day before to attend a conference call, then a brief 10 minute call to notify all those on the call have been laid off and the paperwork is on the way through FedEx. In the case of the recent layoffs they are letting employees work an additional 60 days after which they will get a severance. And that's pretty much it.

Layoffs were handled by higher ups in Chicago so even RCLs had no idea about the layoffs and were unable to give their people some kind of indication of what was to come.
