Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

The Amazon Way

Look at what folks are saying all over the Internet about Amazon - It's cut throat, it's hard, it's merciless but you learn a lot and they pay well. They work you really hard but you can grow and you can work on stuff that's pretty advanced. So, it's up to you - do you want a cushy job in the school district or a cutting edge tech at Amazon - everyone is different and both are viable options that will work differently for folks that seek different things in life. Also, no layoffs at Amazon

It's interesting that few are considering the reality that what Amazon bought was the captain's chair of the Titanic. Amazon can't make pigs fly, not even in a drone. Bezos should have just started a chain that looks like a cross between TJ's and the Publix deli at their Boca store. Small footprint, just a few locations in key urban markets, and the Amazon Fresh brand name. Wouldn't have cost $13.2 billion and would have been set up, right from the start, as a modern "future store" concept. This was a first-class f%%% up by Amazon that won't save our jobs, won't save our company and will ultimately be just Amazon selling 365 products online. Nothing to see here, really.

Yeah Amazon is not buying us for our culture and we will not be amazon employees. Read the fine line print on this one! Goodbye culture warriors!

I have to disagree with the consolidation/layoff talk. Yes, combo teams, thinning out regional redundancy, etc., is going to happen, but the Amazon Go concept was to have 2000 locations nationwide by 2025. Get ready for rapid expansion, if anything. As to whether it is more the 365 store concept, or bigger 40000 ft^2 + footprint stores, or a combination of the two, remains to be seen. This isn't the end, but the turning of a page on whole paycheck and ancient technology. Keep your head up folks.

Yes and no. As with all acquisitions there will be winners and losers. From a corporate perspective it's always better to be on the buying end. Amazon will realized instant savings by merging dept like HR, accounting etc. Amazon has been successful over brick and mortar bc it didn't really have brick and mortar compared to stores like target and Walmart. It's hard to say what they will do with WFM footprint. This is uncharted territory. But you can bet they will optimize efficiency throughout the regional and store level. So yes it's not futurerama because robots, app driven purchases, and automated check out exists.

Amazon will continue exploring the walk in walk out store model. That will be the wfm of the future. That is our destiny now. I predict 0-3yrs out while Amazon perfects this will be spent squeezing out efficiency, optimizing our footprint(close stores, combine stores) and centralizing buying. purchasing. There's no love loss here. Bezos didnt get to where he is by having a conscience. It's pure numbers and bc he paid many times the value he needs to see return quickly. Amazon is where it is bc of stOck price and its customer base expects cheap quick product...we are Amazon now

I am very excited about amazon, they are top in driving retail right now and being bought by a name like that should bring the brand image back. However when you search amazon layoffs there are multiple years including 2001' 2005' 2015' 2016 and 2017 for small layoffs. However they read much more like reorganization zing and moving forward with direction than a fire sale or Hail Mary . Layoffs are just part of business, those of us so long could tell you hundreds of money wasting concepts WFM just wouldn't let go of that led to where we.

Love how everyone is talking about our jobs being replaced by robots. This isn't Futurama. Better technology? Hopefully. Maybe they can fix outdated Irma. Maybe the possibility of buyers going away but honestly that's been a long time coming.
