Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Staff our stores better!

it'd be nice if we can use the money we are saving from closing stores to staff our stores better. If we are going to have a ONE DAY sale spread out over three days maybe we should staff Thursday just as good as the Saturday. And we wonder why consumers would rather go to other stores or online. Maybe instead of spending money adding ridiculously nice amenities in some stores let's put money into staffing properly so our customers have a great, friction free experience so they keep coming back. Customers don't come back if the store is renovated, they mainly come back for the EXPERIENCE!

Factor in the CEO’s 6.8 Million dollar pay raise right on the edge of closing 100 stores and bad management.

I have been a Macy's/Filene's employee for over 47yrs and I don't know why it is so hard for management to see the big picture of customer service! You have a buyer and a seller, the buyer simply wants someone friendly and available to take their money (1+1=2)

Stupid Macys, not gonna sell the merchandise without enough staff to get it out of the stock room. Sales, well customers usually like to know what they are, that is not gonna happen without enough staff to to actually sign the sale. And last but not least stupid Macys, customers can not make purchases when 9 out of 10 times an employee can not even be located to ring a sale! Vendor here, see all the above daily in all volumes of stores. Infact, seen most frequently in flagships and/or your so called "platinum" stores.

You are forgetting one fact: if you want to have good people you have to pay them.

You cannot complain that you have some employees who are 'not that good' and continue to offer miserable compensation.

A lot of us work here because we like working with customers, we like our products and we like what Macy's used to be - a top notch department store.

Yet, over time, the brand lost it's luster and the compensation did not keep with with the inflation, etc. So, now you have a situation that good people do not want to start working here.

And, please do not start me on the Millennials as they have an awkward work ethics and approach towards work - it's just quirky and in my mind, sad.

It's hard to care about employees when our core business is shrinking.

It's easy for folks like amazon or tech companies to be good to their employees when times are good - we'll see how they behave when things turn around like they did for us.

You are correct but they don't care for long tenure employees,we should close and the customer and everyone else a favor. All these corporate bigwigs answer to shareholders only! Sad but true!
