Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Reality, not a rumour

Guys, rumour or not - here is the reality. Cisco bought NDS to give them real security offerings and also to give them a nice cash float due to US cash repatriation taxes. To this end they have got what they wanted, and also I bear them no ill will as this is the nature of business - they are on a transformation process to slim down employee count and maintain revenue through the move to software. By bigger issue was in Pre-Cisco NDS. That company was run as a pet project by Abe (and cash flow pipeline for Murdoch), and no effort was made to be future ready. The same old rubbish was churned out with a view of "CA will pay for it all". No accountability for margins, not balanced decision making. I once saw a thread where a senior xNDS exec wanted more people on a project that would have cost $1m to avoid customer penalties, which would have totalled $100K. That was commonplace. the rot was already there in NDS, Cisco only bought the rest of the workforce some extra time. Also people don't like that all roads lead to San Jose now, rather than Jerusalem. but people are welcome to their opinion. Mine is that the old NDS leadership are the main culprits here. I was LR'd from Cisco a while back, but am not angry or bitter, and would work for them again if our paths crossed. Seeing the practices in NDS is something I would never want to go back to (head in sand management).

With the Sky-Comcast conversation, makes you think if we are going to get targeted by Comcast.

NDS and its remnants are being sold to Comcast Platform Technologies.
