Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

A story on why Lowe's is Anti-American...

I'm 57 years old, was unemployed for 3 years, and finally got on...at Lowe's. I'll be honest, I'm only there because I can't find anything else, plain and simple. Lowe's has sold Americans down the river.

I work hard, as hard as anyone my age, in OSLG (the toughest dept. in the stores, period) and I've been there 14 months. Guess what? I'm still "seasonal," no benefits at all. They call me FT, but my hours vary from 15-38 depending on how business goes. I often close, get off at 11:00PM, get home at 11:45PM, and then open at 5:00AM the next day...at least 5 times a month. Lowe's says they're not supposed to do this (remember orientation?), but they do. I challenge anyone my age to hump it in the south Georgia heat like I do. How does Lowe's reward open availability and hard work? By keeping people like me seasonal (temporary) and still expect me to work even harder. Screw you Lowe's, you corporate whores.

I hate Lowe's and will leave without any notice when I get something else. I won't call out and f--- by co-workers, but I will quit at the end of my shift. Lowe's is a horrible, monster corporation that doesn't give a damn about people. Corporate says customers come to Lowe's because they feel like family! Nonsense...they come to Lowe's for the sales...period, end of story. 75% of OSLG sales are based on mulch, soil, pavers, and plant sales. If Lowe's didn't have frequent sales out there, they wouldn't make half as much, and that's a fact.

Our store easily does $130,000.00 a day this time of the year, driven by lumber & OSLG, which does 75% of this. What does Lowe's do? Bring people in 1 hour early and make them stay 2 hours after closing because they've hired a bunch of floaters 20-30 hours a week to cover mid-shift. Guess what? it's not working. There's less coverage now than before because corporate is trying to squeeze every dime out of what they have. More people have left our store in the last 4 months than in the last year, and I'm serious. Morale is very low. People who've been at Lowe's for years all say how bad it is now.

Lowe's, you're a disgrace to decent Americans everywhere. I take pleasure in closing alright, closing for another store by telling people they can get a better bargain at Walmart, Home Depot, ACE, Target, etc. And you know what? People thank me. I don't even bother to report shoplifters. What do I care if someone's stealing from the corporate pigs?

So, when we opened about 10 years ago, we had about 225 people and I was new to retail. A customer noted that there were many people working in the store and asked me how long it would last? Well, it lasted exactly 5-6 months because Lowe's wanted to make a big grand-opening splash and as people left, they were not replaced. My department had three full-timers and three part-timers and now we have one full-timer and three part-timers (if you include the former weekend team person). How on earth are you supposed to get the same amount of work done with only one full-timer, the person who is most responsible for administrative stuff such as markdown sheet; irp's; cycle counts and price audits as well as downstocking and zoning. Something has got to give and oftentimes only a small amount of the tasks are completed generally. This is the retail of the 21st century - you cannot just stop in when you feel like it because oftentimes there may not be someone in the department you need something from. Not like the old days.

Wow, a couple of the douche bags on this thread must be ASMs or some other afterbirth...

If you live in this country, have to work a low-paying job in your 50s because of a recession that had nothing to do with you, and you're not bitter, then you are an idiot, flag-waving "I believe in God, country, and the military" moron. Each of you should look up the word "NeoLiberal" and read up on it - it will help clear things up for you. Nix that, just go watch some talk show and forget about it...you're already lost. You make peanuts shells seem smart...

Lowe's doesn't affect my life, or that of others once I'm away from it. It actually makes me appreciate the truly good things in life...and Lowe's represents none of those things. I rant on here in hopes that some poor sap will say "Sh--, this place must be bad. I won't work or spend my money there."

Actually, I am in line for a FT position...but I don't want it. I'll hang on to my PT gig until I can get out. This company of mostly dumb--ses and uneducated slubs reminds me of why the US is a nation of idiots...I can't even spend time in our break room because of all the ignorant folks there. Listening to them talk politics reminds me how stupid they are and how this country is in a real sh-- storm if these people actually vote. In fact, most of them should have been aborted by their mom's and tossed in a dumpster behind Denny's somewhere.

So I suppose I should thank Lowe's for being around so that 10s of 1000s of these Lowe's kool-aid guzzling nimrods are located in one place for 16 hours a day. Now the rest of us can enjoy society free from you hapless putzes.

Thanks Lowe's!!

I can't say I blame you for being bitter. Lowe's has become a complete mockery of what it pretends to stand for. Over ten years I've busted butt for this company and thankfully I'm on way out odds are suing their asses on the way (takes ages to get proof of the crap they do). I give the same advice to each new person... learn all you can and run, find a real job bc this company will destroy your soul. Sadly they've all returned to tell me I was right.

I'm sure there is more as to why this person is pretty bitter. There are a few thousands of other people out there that are and could write a book as to what all is going on. Just try and breath. Do the best you can with what you have to work with. Maybe it will get better in the end. Keep in mind, what many think is easy to just go out there and get a job... It is not as easy as they say. Being in my 50's, it truly is not as there are younger aged people that are standing in line for jobs and if you have a job... Work it until you can secure another before you quit. Just take day at a time and breath as ya go.

Wow!

I'm so sorry that you feel thatbadly about your job!

Maybe it's time to move on. Your bitterness has to be affecting your health

And others.

And truthfully, reading this. I can tell you 100%. That you will not be offered a full time position.

So around September, you will have the freedom u seek!
