Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Tips to survive

At current economy you just cannot afford to be laid off if you did not do your time enough for a good package. However there are ways to survive if you do not know the L2s and L3s at first name basis, and your manager already has a favorite, here is what you can do.

Follow the money. That is the bottom line for Mr Dell and his L2s. So, if you are not in the club, make sure:

  1. You are cheap. Preferably located at a best cost location.

  2. You manage your boss' and her favorite pet's portfolio and does all their work and thinking while they get all the glory and promotion "if" your boss is in the club. if not, go to 3.

  3. Say yes and do everything by all means without fail from admin tasks, preparing decks, attend meeting, do all the menial work, accounting, IT support, everything. One person, 10 men work - scale with peanuts pay - it is still better than a sweatshop. If you fail a task and could not push away the accountability, go to 4.

  4. Beg and buy presents beyond your means, delay that wedding so a person in the club will let you into L2s pet projects. Get your name listed in "important" and highly visible chat groups. If all fails, go to 5.

  5. Max out your boss' tellDell and tell the whole world you gave perfect score for your boss and pray that managers in the club will take you in with one grade lower (buy your recruiter something expensive for lateral) to fix their score.

This is just a job. Do what you have to do to feed the people you love. And time it so you can move on when you are ready.

If you think the GDP will grow faster than what it is or has been then you are safe. If not you are in for a rough ride and it is much more difficult if you have mortgage, car payments, o yes children. Step out of your comfort zone out of your zip code and see how the world works. Something Dell is not going to teach you. I have seen many folks life destroyed recently thru Corp M&A.

If there is one dispensable thing for American corporations it is the American worker!

dispensable = not needed

Corporations don't optimize for JOBS. They optimize for shareholder returns.

One obvious conclusion of this is that when employees are shareholders it works better but is still imperfect because of course they don't have controlling interests.

If they did then it would work nearly flawlessly to a point,

A. If they manage it well

B. To the extent that monetary success of the corporation fits actual human goals.

But still see the problem is monetization of things into a material world redefines a human life into monetary terms. That's the sum total of the lie they build everything upon and how helpless and hopeless you become.

"...it is still better than a sweatshop."

It may not be a literal sweatshop, but what you described is still a sweatshop.
