Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Can we stop using the term LR?

Is what Cisco is doing, really a Limited Restructuring, or is there a better term we can use? Please provide your ideas for the term we should be using. Some examples below:

Cull of the elderly

Corporate genoside of its old

Keeping VP's pockets lined

Killing dreams

Ruining careers

Panic cost cutting

Sacking people

@1xne Sorry to hear that you've had such a hard time. This is yet another reason people need to forget the concept on loyalty or become too comfortable in one job, otherwise you could find yourself in this position. Don't let a company control your future, own it yourself. My advice is never spend more then 8 years in one company and always challenge yourself to do something different each time you move on. Do not fall for all this "Cisco family" BS.... It's just a controlling tactic and has no substance.

Cisco has changed in last 5 years, they are more sale focus, their organic growth culture died, with the result they have too much competition from new startup, and their new approach to survive strategy is buy out these startup and assimilate into their own culture, which they are very good at.

Also, they are getting rid of lot experienced and aging tech folks, growth for these tech folks has been limited because of non-existent organic growth culture, Cicso also have to manage their wall street balance sheet. so they layoff at one hand and Out-source Jobs at the other hand, has become their management mantra, and they have fully mastered this art. When I was lay off after 15 years of service @50 I was given retirement package of 5 month salary, half of income was taken by Uncle SAM and there after never got permanent Job offer, still struggling to survive as contractor with absolute cisco skill set that were limited to the the silos of their Tac setup. I hope govt. lower the retirement age for lay off employee, so I can call off my last 4-5 year of Job search and take a permanent sabbatical from tech world for ever.

Look out, you're showing your age. :-)

But you made me laugh. It's very appropriate. All the new millennials coming in will soon be ready for Carousel in a few years.

Tell it as it is: Lay Off - aka firing people.

I would also add to it that Cisco should get rid of its references that it is a family focused company or really can wall the talk of diversity and inclusion . Perhaps these are also very specific to the management chain that one is part of.

  • It is far from family when it comes to the final decisions to cut costs. True families find creative ways to make things work for the whole family.

  • it's inclusion is limited and superficial. Regardless of what is spoken, it is a culture of certain type of masculinity. This is different than gender of male/female. Without giving away too much I can say that women are being laid off in the process, too. It is not about dead wood 50+ men. It is about those who fit a more aggressive cultural norm.
