Sales rep. Its the housecleaning of anyone who didn't perform as prescribed in Q4 who was on their watch list.
It was SaaS rep.

Right, this is a batch of performance based terminations that's hammering all sales groups right now.
They have been doing it for years, they are a bit more aggressive lately though.
If he has SaaS experience he should be able to make a transition to the Cloud relatively quickly (assuming a bit of tech knowledge and strong personal/client network).
When I was looking three months ago, Google was hiring big time on the AppEngine side - your friend may want to check that out.
i would call these sales rep events terminations, not a layoffs. the reasoning was performance related. no severance. tomorrow is their last day.
