Layoffs and working for suppliers

Has anyone ever applied for a waiver to work for a supplier after getting laid off?

They are afraid of people taking company strategy to competitors. Why I don't know though. It's not difficult to see what Walmart is up to and predict leadership's next move.

Tons of people are leaving my area. I'm feel like the non compete is to try to trap the people they want to keep until they are done with them.

From my understanding, in some cases is has to do with grade level or if you were in a buying position for the applicable category. For IT professionals, you could not have worked in the IT area prior to being displaced.

I have heard of people working around the ethics department by going to their former leadership (SVP and EVP level) and asking for a waiver successfully. If they fire you, the least they can do is give you a waiver so you can afford to feed your family.

Yes it is under the statement of ethics . Everyone needs to read. When you sign on with Walmart and they put it back in when they lay you off. Basically, if there is a conflict of interest you can not work for a supplier. Now the suppliers are wanting a waiver from Walmart before they will hire you. We have ask the ethics people for a waiver and still no answer yet.

Maybe I don't understand your question, but if they laid you off, you should be able to work any where you choose. Unless as part of the severance package, you had to sign a document saying that you would not go to work for a supplier. And if that was the case, I would argue that that could be illegal.
