Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Employees Stretched Thin (Very!)

I am an AST associate and really skeptical at how the office will be effective because the cuts are so severe. We were already challenged after the first cut, now it will be nearly impossible to complete tasks that are required of us. We'll do our best but honestly, I think we have reached the breaking point.

I'm originally from Chicago and when The Marshall Field company sold to Macys, no one in Chicago was happy. It's truly a shame that Macys took a once absolutely fabulous store and has diminished it to a junk store. There's never any staff to wait on you and the quality of the merchandise has gone down greatly. I really feel Macys is a sinking ship. And, the family of Marshall Field should have never sold to Macys. Sales in retail are plunging as it is from all of the online purchasing perks. Macys is driving people to shop online. Customers don't want to shop at Macy's anymore unless there is a sale which is an understatement because the whole store constantly has sales and now they have Last Act. Unfortunately Macys is in the Last Act.

Let's say the supervisor goes on vacation, and the part time AST is left alone for ten days. How does the vault get done when the same person cannot do it more than six times in a row?

Another staff cut? I don't believe that they can't see how bad it is, they literally loose a dollar to save a dime. And I am convinced that someone there up is hurting Macy's on purpose. All these severe cuts of great employees, ridiculous new My Client (so NOT helpful, fire the one who made it!), a million questions asked on the pin pad and by associates (like, do you want to open a charge? sign up for Plenty? donate here, here and here?) just makes the process harder and longer and pisses the customers in the very, very understaffed stores, those customers now will leave with making no purchase. Where is the service and conveniense? They've gotta be complete idiots if they don't see it there. Well, the new layoff will just be like making another hole in a sinking ship - who knows, maybe some miracle will happen and that will save us from going down, huh?

my friend who is an ASTS in another store told me the same thing. Have you seen the discussion on the portal from other stores? there are many concerns about how thing will be completed and accomplished.

i assume with these cuts there is more coming down the road that will eliminate more jobs or combine them. everybody should get out if they can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
