Cisco non-patriotic making Americans work today

While most American companies let employees enjoy the four day weekend, Cisco made it's American employees work today. You think this would slide in other countries?

To be honest these are first-world problems. In France, Spain, Italy they have the concept of 'bridge days' such that you'd get the Monday off. I don't know that it's a formal arrangement but it's certainly custom & practice. Of course, if you were in the U.K. the holiday would have been moved to the Monday anyway so you'd be working on Tuesday.

Oh cisco should hire only americans!, then please prepare stop selling cisco products in other countries.

I am paying for these coke, pepsi kFC, microsoft, oracle to create jobs in america, time to stop using these ultra nationalist products.

WTF? Please provide a list of companies that give Monday off in addition to the 4th.

Cisco provides ample PTO, including one floating holiday which you're perfectly able to use to take Monday off to have a 4-day weekend.

At my new job, only half of us were able to take Monday off using PTO and those of us not able to get the day off due to seniority, we had to work in-the-office.

As much as I dislike that Cisco let me go last year, this is hardly something to complain about. Cisco has always made workers work the Monday before a Tuesday July 4th, or the Friday after a Thursday July 4th.

At least they give you the Friday after Thanksgiving EVERY year.

If you want to complain about Cisco's PTO policy, how about complaining about the mandatory year-end shutdown? What if you'd rather take the bulk of your time off in the summer instead of at the end of the year? Or if you don't celebrate the year-end holiday season and would rather work?

Not that anyone on this list cares about contractors/red-badges, at least Cisco doesn't force them to take an un-paid day on either side of every national holiday. I worked for a company before Cisco where the recruiter failed to disclose that it was the client's policy to make contract/consultant workers take the day before and the day after EVERY holiday off unpaid because most employees took those days off and therefor there was little work to be done and no one to supervise them. I was very upset to find out that I'd be taking 16 additional unpaid days off every year that I couldn't really turn into family vacations.

I have to say I have no complaints about Cisco on this one. Any too many people abuse the work-from-home privilege for days like Monday. How many people did much more than check email occasionally and respond only if needed?

I take this post as "I want to critizise, no matter what". Cisco has serious issues to talk about but why is it C's problem if you take a PTO day or not? And if you do an easy-going home office day would anyone say anything?

The SJ office was almost empty, quiet, relaxed - wish it would alway be like that :-)
