Fear of China’s Retaliation Hinders U.S. in Trade Dispute

"International Business Machines Corp., which has licensed semiconductor technology to Chinese firms, has taken a softer line. Chris Padilla, an IBM vice president, said in May that while the U.S. should insist on a principle of reciprocity when it comes to investment, he doesn’t back import tariffs aimed at China."

HA HA! Yeah, as now, kowtowing to all the demands of the Chinese in the blind service of the almighty $$$$$ is the only way IBM can legitimately play in the Chinese market-space, even if it does mean including the soul (whatever is remaining. . .) of the company and those of it's IBM employees along with it.

"The likely process by the U.S. would be a declaration, following a months-long investigation, that Chinese policies and practices represent unfair trade practices. The U.S. government would then craft a series of possible retaliatory measures—such as restricting the freedom of U.S. companies to provide technology licenses to Chinese partners, or imposing tariffs or quotas on Chinese firms seeking to do business in the U.S.—if the Chinese government didn’t alter its policies."

It will be quite interesting to see how this shakes out: IBM has to be sweating bullets knowing that government restrictions like these are in the works and are apparently rolling-out soon. As once these are enacted, it'll be RA's on a scale the likes of which haven't been seen since Lou took over.
