Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Unofficial official layoff report 8/4

Well as we all know the peace would not hold and so we had layoffs this past week again, mostly hardware as oracle has decided to leave the HW business. LYoff this week aboutb 500, that beings FY18 to 4,500 and the total since 6/1/2016 to 14,500. More layoffs coming in September for sure, need to finish off HW org and continue sales and support layoffs. Stay busy looking for other jobs!

Let the number be 100 or 500. Let this news be termed 'fake'. Look at the history of headcount, earnings for the last few years in a row. It is declining 20% year over year. Customers are abandoning Oracle HW as much as they can and will continue to do so. I work for HW as well and this is true. Will retire in a year. Have informed my management. There is no real cloud in Oracle that has to run on Oracle HW.

3ltu: I just had drinks with a friend there. Everyone is being kept in the dark because ES told the VP's to keep it secret. He is seriously pissed that people are talking about it here even though everyone can hear the sound of them sharpening the blades. When I was end-dated in January, HR made a big deal that we were not allowed to encourage people to leave, so you all have to stay. It all sounds like the movie Mars Attacks! We come in peace! We come in peace! Don't run!!!

I feel sorry for you all. It was hard to let go, but technology changes. As the ponytail said "Go home, light a candle, and let go of the expectations and assumptions that defined Sun as a workplace. Honor and remember, but let them go." Think about the future and all the amazing things you can do without the leg irons.

On the bright side, life after Oracle is good. I landed another job before long. Even has perks like choice of laptop and OS, tools that don't look like they are from the stone age, execs that actually visit and answer questions. You won't miss Oracle.

Markus F's organization has been kept completely in the dark regarding coming Solaris layoffs. The rumor is that the ax is going to swing hard and wide, with entire teams being eliminated, including QA/QE. Unlike with the January Solaris layoffs, no one under MF is being told that that they are "safe". The herd is spooked and people are running for the exits, resumes in hand. Some think that MF will be fired as well. Morale is in the toilet and few expect to keep their jobs.

Oracle is not leaving the hardware business - in fact, much of its "cloud" strategy is based on Solaris and Exadata hardware running in Oracle's Cloud data centers or on premise as a "cloud" service. (I put "cloud" in quotation marks because, of course, this is not cloud - this is just moving on premise Oracle apps to new Oracle hardware and allowing Oracle to claim bogus "cloud" revenue.) I agree that hardware support will be done with a skeletal staff.

where you get this useless information from ?

" decided to leave the HW business"

who said they did ? I'm not saying they won't , but that was not decided yet . unless you have inside info you cant make this claim.

500 this week in HW ? I didn't hear of any layoffs in the hardware this week, and I work in HW.

add some sense to what you posting here, people are already nervous and worried. no need to make claims that are not true .

and ya .. you have a lot of typos in your post .
