Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Seasonal

They hired me for seasonal which was supposed to last until the first week of August. Well, the job ended 6 weeks early and they waited until the end of my shift to tell me it was my last day! I’m a mom of 2 kids and that was really cruel to wait til last minute when the job was supposed to last another 6wks!

If you were seasonal you should have been looking for a job. Take the pay and find something else. Lowes already said you are not good enough for full time. Dont let the stupid hr or even trolling store managers tell you otherwise. The goal of seasonal is to hire a bunch and find the 2-3 they like to keep knowing full well they won't keep all.

My 2 cents, I may be 100% off but here it goes...

Had they wanted you, they would have made it work. Likely, someting irked them or something was playing in the background (maybe setting it up for a buddy) that caused your early departure.

Since you cannot change things, your best option is to accept the relase, wish them good luck and ask for candid feedback on your performance - areas of imprvement that may help you be even better on your next gig. This typically softens them up a bit and they tell you what they really think bout you - otherwise, its just a "good job, don't need you anymore" which is stupid and does not help you at all

Actually, they could have given notice because I was told by MANY employees at the service desk that the managers knew 2 weeks before they told us and they just wanted to keep us around for the holiday, which was fine, but I still could have known so I could have been putting out applications for another job.

Most stores are cutting hours (hello end of quarter save your managerial butts time!).

As a employee, as much as it s---s you should be happy they cut you at the end of your shift;

1) they probably needed the work since coverage is skeleton crew at best.

2) it's good for you to get some extra hours.

3) helped out neighboring Depts for coverage.

Seasonal hires have a golden opportunity to get in the front door of any company, but I don't see our seasonal hires now trying to get permanent positions. I'm a specialist and I work hard to provide excellent service to my customers. I educate them fully in my area of expertise, something they expect to find in Lowe's specialty departments and installations. Lowe's also expects the seasonal hires to work hard, prove their worth and do whatever it takes to help the customer. Get something down from top stock. Walk the customer to the product. If you don't know how to answer their questions, find the right person who can. Our seasonal hires this year have called out numerous weekends and holidays, and complain long and loud about having to get their hands dirty or break a sweat. Don't expect a career from a seasonal temp job unless you're willing to make yourself indispensable. Lowe's has a lot of flaws, but letting temps go is not one of them.

Every company that I've worked for where they no longer needed me they informed me at the end of my shift. This is what they pay you until and also so they can get the work out of you and release you without having a disgruntled employee...

The official job offer states that their is an estimated end date...It's estimated. Most stores have a general idea of when business is going to start dropping off but you don't really know until you're in the season. That's the tough thing about a weather-related season, you have to guesstimate and it's all based on how sales are doing and no one really knows until it happens. It's very common to get very little notice and it's also very uncommon to be able to give two or three weeks notice. 2-3 weeks notice has happened in our store before but that is a luxury.

Yes I know it was “seasonal”. The fact that the position ended 6wks earlier than expected and they waited til that very day as I was clocking out to tell me that was my last day is just bull. There’s no excuse for it. A heads up would have been nice and I know they knew 2-3wks before hand cause I was told so afterwards.

Agreed with the first post. Was it right? No. Does it happen often? Hell yes. Again you are told from the beginning you are seasonal and signed that they can fire you at will....

That wasn't right, they should have either been more truthful about the job or let you work till they said the job would end. People just tell you whatever, even if they lie, that is the sad thing.

Hopefully, you will find something else. Good luck to you!

As are the 45,000 others that Lowe's claim they hired. So now who's waiting on the customers like they said you guys were for? I can't believe the media would be so dumb to not see it as a cover up to keep stock prices high. Use them them and lose them. So if they cut all the people that are full time that's going around the place will be empty. No one will shop there because people can't help themselves. They are to damm lazy. Sorry about your job, but I know someone being let go Christmas Eve at the end of there shift. Lowe's can be a bad place to work for some I've seen it many times.
