Pretty much all of corporate recruiting was outsourced. They are moving Workday to global shared services and reducing headcount on the HR side. They have also been letting people go in corporate recruiting in small numbers every 2 or 3 weeks as to not trigger WARN and as to not cause a panic to remaining associates.

So, which areas?? Once upon a time, you could follow posts on this discussion board and time lines were laid out. It was like a map, easily followed. Now, it is just full of he said, she said and nothing concrete.
Is it going to affect Ho only or market regional and store also?
Anyone know what areas are supposedly targeted for 27th and 28th? Is it supposed to be a big hit or just more small cuts?
Seeing a lot if not most HO vendor rooms booked out by HR for the 28th.
@Anonymous Benefits. The business area.
What department is your names from?
I know of 5 names of the many that were let go yesterday. So I can confirm RIFs occurred.
There were layoffs in Benefits today
Which area from GPC? HR, Benefits, some other?
Well nothing here at Sam's today.
The news articles that came out in January 2017 about the layoffs said that many of the positions eliminated would be from HR. To this point, I had not heard about HR getting hit with layoffs. Maybe they are beginning to get hit now.
This from a 1/11/17 article on the SHRM website:
Wal-Mart is about to eliminate hundreds of jobs at its headquarters and in regional offices to pay for higher wages at its stores and to protect its profits. A good chunk of those job cuts will come from Walmart's human resources department, rather than from stores, as top executives look to hire consultants to perform HR duties. (Fortune)
15 from GPC
Looks like it was not the 17th, but the 18th. So far about 10 mostly from HR.
Yup. I'm hearing the 27th for home office too.
Ofw8cOV-5npy. when this kind of comment is made , no one should put in value in it. nothing is truth until it is. sort of like a gossip game. i heard that she heard that someone said. blah blah blah.
What time is the call? My gm closes today
What today is this happening? Today?
first the GM conference call. then meeting with assistants then with us to hear the news we've lost our job. all within an hours time
sam's for sure, don't know about walmart
For Walmart or Sams?
something is up...mandatory conf calls in morning ...
No layoffs this week. People trying to scare folks
The problem with these layoffs is that they seem to be ongoing with no stopping. It is one thing to have a layoff to cut costs, but get it done and then stop; let the staff know it has stopped. Laying people off like this with no stopping erodes trust.
Trust is important in the workplace and society overall because it's proven to have good outcomes.
There are studies showing that teams of employees who trust one another and the company they work for, who have higher morale, and greater job security, are more productive, creative, and efficient. There is a big onus on companies to cultivate trust with their employees. People deserve to work were morale is good, they can do good work and feel that someone has their back (job security).
Honestly, is Walmart leadership going to achieve the effect they want with these layoffs, or will they be left with a company they've broken in many ways?
Probably just for AES meetings. I wouldn't sweat it. God Bless
The 27th the vendor rooms are booked down the hallways in the home office . They've done this every time.
What positions? Not asking for source. What areas impacted. Sam's or Walmart?
I can't say how I know. But, this week and next week are going to be bad. All over.
I agree get it over with. I don't wish it on anyone but this being on a chopping block is nerve racking. I'm the receiving lead been at the club for 25 years. Feeling pretty sick about how Sam's has changed in all these years. Good luck to everyone. Audit got it on a Tuesday.
My GM was on vacation and had to come in for the next few days...let's just get this over with, I am a clerk at a high volume club and if it's time than so be it, good luck finding someone else to take over the responsibilities I have "per HO" and then all the other stuff they don't think that is important.

Which managers had a conference call? Sam's or Wal-Mart or ho?
Today is the 17th and management had a conference call about changes happening in a few days!!
I suspect trolls are frequenting this site more often to get a reaction out of the truly paranoid people on here.
Yes, Walmart is careful to avoid being subject to the WARN Act. And I understand there are small numbers of layoffs occuring regularly. However, this 7-17 warning is a false alarm.
Layoffs are ongoing; each week people are being shown the door, that is a fact! Whether or not the 17th is going to be a day for a large layoff or just a handful of people is unknown. Walmart HR has been very calculating in avoiding tipping people off to their layoff intentions.
There is a federal law requiring advanced notification for mass layoffs, the WARN Act (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) . With regard to the WARN Act, the law does not require advanced notice when only a handful of employees are being let go and when the layoffs are spaced out, such as ongoing layoffs, which we have all seen happening. Also, recall when the layoff numbers were large at the HO, such as in October, 2015 when 450 were let go, Walmart avoided advanced notification because the number laid off fell just under the 500 person threshold that would have required WARN notice be given.
The following is an excerpt on how WARN works. Covered employers may need to give WARN notices (to employees, their unions where applicable, and certain government officials) in the following circumstances:
“Plant Closing”: where an employment site (or one or more facilities or operating units within an employment site) will be shut down, and the shutdown will result in an “employment loss” for 50 or more employees during any 30-day period.
“Mass Layoff”: where there is to be a mass layoff which does not result from a plant closing or employment site, but which will result in an employment loss at the employment site during any 30-day period for: (a) 500 or more employees, or (b) for 50-499 employees if they make up at least 33% of the employer’s active workforce.
Despite the reference to a 30-day period in the definitions of plant closing and mass layoff above, there are additional provisions that allow for the aggregating of employment losses for up to a 90-day period in some cases in determining whether WARN notices must be provided.
Special previsions prevent the employer from avoiding these requirements by spacing out layoffs. There are also provisions which protect the employer in cases of unavoidable circumstances such as natural disasters.
There were concrete signs before the last one, HR had a clue. Too mny false alarms on this site. Paranoid people speculating and often I agree it is BS
Why would it be BS. There have been non stop layoffs/firings since the first of the Year pretty much. There have been a few larger hits but the rest I've heard about seems like a few there and a few here as restructures keep coming.
Given the continuous nature of what's been going on, I tend to believe 7-17 as being plausible. I tend not to believe anything Walmart management has to say at this point.
Ok, let's set the record straight. This is just total BS. "Looks Like 7-17 is the next round" - total BS.
