Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Bring Back Old EDS

I remember back in the day when my Dad worked for EDS in the 1990s. He hired my friends out of collage. Then his friends hired me (to avoid appearance of nepotism) . I am still here. Some 20 years later. I have survived EDS, HP, Hewlett Packerd Enterprise and now DXC Technology. I don't even know why ... loyalty? belief I still matter? I do have a salary in the 90ks, and I work mostly from home .. why are the rest of you here?

The EDS culture is still ripe today and was the reason HPE sold it off.

I work in the Oracle practice and it's made up of these clowns.

This HP /EDS rehash is tiring and distracting. That merger failed we get it.

Let's focus on the sh--ty swirl that is the current incarnation, DXC. Hope someone flushes this mess soon.

The problem with Hewlett Packard, HPE and now DXC is, it's made up with the old EDS staff.

EDS never had a good name as all they were not revered by others. DXC is made up of people just hiding behind process.

I'm afraid we're a dead company and until the top change things I don't see it changing.

I came through an account (P&G) to HP, and still worked for years for P&G in our little bubble.

I never had issues with the HP mentality, when we started to mix and moving to other accounts, it was still ok. I felt I gained a lot of experience working years for P&G and really felt lucky I could use this experience for other customers. I never realized how much I had learned in the P&G school until then.

I was respected for what I knew and often got several rewards on one year for successes I booked on other accounts. I was happy.

the issue became when I moved further and started to work more and more in the EDS area. I was shocked. How people work with each other - almost hostile? the skillset they have? Often we started on a new account with ex-P&G, ex-HP and ex-EDS people. I was not so impressed about the EDS people, to be honnest. They often came with a level much higher then ours, had no real degree, only high level talk knowledge... amazing, they were also not able to pick up quickly the technical knowhow and management skills to start a new account rolling.

when I moved into the pre-sales area - and deeper and deeper into EDS it really got worse. Processes for doing processes, without people sometimes understanding the logic behind it and being able to select what is really necessary, and what is obsolete.

result - I want to move out as quick as possible out of anything that gives me the EDS feeling. I want to work in a job where my entrepreneural skills are being appreciated. Where team is still a team and you do not need to watch your back the whole time. I want to be happy in my work and need friendship and freedom to shine. I can not wait until I would ever get a WFR (asked it already several times with the words: the EDS mentality and me is not a match!)

so I would see it different to you - I did not like EDS at all!

I see the two camps biggering over who is better? EDS vs HP. Speaking from someone came from outside of EDS and HP, been thriough multiple job changes. Employers care about proven skills/experiences that you could bring to the table. There are always good, bad and the ugly everywhere you go. The recommendation is energy is better spent to update your resumes and forget about EDS, HP or DXC.

Quiet frankly if you insist on traveling back to memory lane to talk about "the good old days" (so to speak), the employer may look at you as inflexible and not nimble enough to adjust/adapt to the new environment.

I wish everyone all the best in your next endeavor! It's sad to see so many talented good people being affected by poor leadership and driven by greed...

If you worked for EDS, highlight that on your resume when you go looking. If you never worked for EDS, lie on your resume or enjoy the unemployment lines. The industry still respects EDS and laughs at the HP culture.

EDS was a pile of xxxxxxxx. HPE bought it, one of the biggest mistakes other than the autonomy and palm purchase.

EDS lost all the pursuits to either HPES or IBM GS, but still not sure why HPE bought those loosers.

Whatever said and done HPE was an amazing place to work and hope they thrive.

EDS was the last bastion of true corporate family style of business, but it turned out to be in vegetative state by the time I got there... HP took over and from there on, we have been working at a 'resource brokerage firm'... A keyboard mill , if you will .

There are some people to this day... I have no idea what they actually do.. But they have been at it for a long time...

I got the axe last week...and I have to say I actually feel liberated... Its scary as crap, because all my resume can sport is basically a decades worth of anything but actual SW dev. Unbelievable that I got this far... I'll be riding scooters for a while... till I tap on something more enterprising and entrepreneurial... Its good to be free... I got choices (with no excuses) now... I actually feel alive :)

EDSer here. Our account/contract started in the 90's and solidly brings the company a significant margin. Huge WFR numbers are still forced on account management every quarter. It's not a good look for you to paint everything EDS w a broad brush. Trim the overhead !! Grow the business.

A simple reality. EDS has top notch people, doing top notch work, and doing the work extremely well. If they could not do the work, then they were put into low level management. HP/HPE did nothing for us. We have the same incompetent management doing the same incompetent job. No need to replace them since they are inexpensive. Now we have the CSC takeover and calling it DXC. Naturally, the talent stays in place, as this is the glue holding the contracts down while making the money for the company, but the same incompetent untrained management is being shuffled around (quite entertaining actually). Why I stay? It is the only game in my area. Sure I can go work anywhere, but that means packing the bags and moving - which I will likely be doing soon. There is no advancement here. This 'merger' is designed to cut the dead wood and see how little the resources will accept in compensation.

The only people that are still working for DXC, including yourself, are people with high salary, that dont have any transferable skills, and cant go anywhere because they wouldn`t even get a 1st line job. Hope that answers your question :)

Gotta love the HP haters who never worked for a solid company. HP encourage the flex-schedule and work from home. EDS forced everyone in an office and made them wear blue..:..somewhat like a cult over over paid staff with 90% of them as high school graduates. HP only hired those with Bachelor degrees as they wanted the best.

EDS was the biggest loser purchase by HP. HP acquired their garbage accounts and lawsuits because these employees were clueless! I have never met an EDS employee that was worth their salary.

Why the EDS versus HP or HPE? Time to be united to share thoughts on how to deal with WFRs. No on cam escape the ax. You may be laying low under the radar for now.. to achieve $1.2 billion of savings, everyone is vulnerable..

You are wrong about EDS people. I am working 10 hour days, doing the work of all those that have been laid off. I have pride in my work, my ranking is exceeds expectations, I have talent, work ethic, I am a team player. My Dad is retired now - but he asks me everyday " how it's going at work" I love the heritage here. ROSS PEROT forever.
