(1) you are 10 years at Cisco and still not a tech lead. From a business point of view, it might make sense to replace you with a younger engineer and give him a chance to succeed.
(2) you are 10 years at Cisco, a tech lead but you don't "lead". From a business point of view, it might make sense to replace you with a less experiences software engineer.
(3) you work in a dying business unit and most of your team got layed off. From a business point of view, it might make sense to get rid of doomed business units.
(4) neither of above.
