Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoff date?

Can we pinpoint a precise date for this year's August/September layoff based on dates from the past?

"Layoffs don't start "with a bunch". Layoffs happen Cisco-wide all at the same day."

No they don't. Different countries have different labor laws. Some countries have works councils and / or consultation periods. Likewise LRs can happen throughout the year and not generate any noise. Not everything is publicized at quarter / year end...only if there is a reason to disclose i.e. a statutory / fiscal obligation to authorities / shareholders.

In the States at end / beginning of a fiscal you could well have a whole tranche occurring at the same time but throughout the year the process doesn't stop. Its a revolving door at Cisco.

Well yes in the past Cisco layoffs have happened on the same day. That is part of why my relative was shocked that his teammates and supervisors were laid off yesterday.

Layoffs began today. I know a senior manager who had a bunch of coworkers and supervisor let go. Works in technical services support San Jose.

I was LR'd back in 2014. Notified on Sept 23rd, last date of employment was Oct 10th, with no chance of finding another position. Let the hunger games begin!

Any idea of what the layoff package is like? Trying to get things prepared just in case.

Aug 17, 2017 is when the layoff notice will be provided to individuals on the layoff list. Chuck will announce the number of heads to be chopped during the 4th Q earnings call on Aug 16.

It's hard to say. In every year previous to last year, they announced reductions during the year-end earnings call, or in the case of '11, they announced it in June but stated that the notifications would occur in Aug. Assuming they do the same as last year and don't go back to previous years, it will be at the earnings call.

Last year, they made the announcements during the year end earnings call and impacted people were notified the next day, if possible. Managers had 3 days to notify impacted employees. So, I'd say they'd make the announcement during this year's earnings call, and tell US workers the next day or two.

I know a manager who had to approve some guy's PTO request KNOWING that he'd have to call the guy while he was on PTO and let him go over the phone!
