Thread regarding Sears layoffs

A real topic from an actual employee

Big question what will happen this Q2 is over and will likely end with another fail ... more store closings to come, so i have heard from a current liquidator in a Michigan sears store they already have others planned on going into once tbe one their in is final. Could this be true thru-out the company ... more cuts once the numbers are in for Q2???? Someone knows , will they share the truth with us

1tiz you have posted before using the exact words so I know it isn't the first time you have posted. Just have some consideration for people. You really don't know and I can tell you with certainty Lakeside is not the next store closing and no I do not work there. There are a lot of worried associates out there and you saying stores are closing does not help.

SMC the new furniture store is called "at home" they've been buying up old Sears locations nationwide for a few years now. They do furniture and home decor. Google them you'll see what I mean. They are also moving into part of the Macomb mall store. Rumor mill says cabellas taking the rest but who knows.

XKP- this is the first time I posted about lakeside closing. I'm guessing you work there. Not sure who else is telling you you're closing but take a look at who it is, then look at the sales your store does and tell me why it wouldn't be closing?

ZSQ really needs to keep their mouth shut as they know NOTHING what is going on. ZSQ keeps repeating themselves about certain stores closing ,how inconsiderate of the people who work at these stores. Can you imagine what it must feel like if you work at one of these stores and read on this board over and over again that your store is closing? I will tell you one thing Lakeside is NOT the next store to close!

They are already closing more stores than was on the last list. There are at least a few more kmarts and some sears that are closing in our district that were not listed on the last closing list so the numbers are really larger than reported.

Yes, they will close more stores after the 2Q report. They can take advantage of the Christmas sales just like they did last year when some stores closed in Sept-NOv.

"Oakland mall is getting the remodel (moving upstairs while the furniture store takes over downstairs)."

Really? Will the bottom floor be Sears furniture? And what about automotive since it's next to the shop? Curious because this is the Sears I go to once a year (Lands End still has things I like)

@dhi The problem their is that theirs to much debt and since Eddie basically has it as collateral he takes majority of the properties if not all. Their is way to much debt way to much problems for even a multi billionaire wanting to take the challenge. I would maybe understand Amazon wanting to buy some locations and even the remaining big brands (Kenmore/Diehard), but not the company "Sears Holding".

OP, I'm assuming you heard this from Someone at the Roseville store as it is the only sears currently closing in Michigan. I have heard the Kmart in Shelby/Utica's lease is almost up.

The Lakeside Mall Sears is widely know to be the absolute worst performing store $ wise in the state and really should have been closed some time ago. Roseville's numbers were the best in the area but Seritage Leased out the property for 3x what Sears was paying, which is the only reason their closing.

I believe the former Super K at 696/Gratiot will be converted to a Appliance/Mattress store. That location is huge, and in very good physical shape as it was built specifically to be a Super K.

The Auto Center at Roseville is staying and has already been converted to a "Diehard Driven by Sears" store on the exterior at least.

If I had to guess they may be near closing the Novi store, it seems busy but at the same time they closed the Auto Center (which are generally profitable) about 2 months ago. Oakland mall is getting the remodel (moving upstairs while the furniture store takes over downstairs). If I had to make bank I would do a perfecta on Lakeside and Novi though.

She's going to sink folks. There are firehouses spraying water into the ship and we're trying to counter by emptying it with a straw.

they are all going to close over the next few years, IMO. Too low sales volumes in a store to pya the bills

Can't he sell what's left to someone? Sears might still have some life in it in the right hands.
