Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

RIF on 7/31 confirmed, but here are 6 takeaways...

  1. There is life outside of Sabre. Sabre is not what it used to be, so take it as an opportunity to find something good.

  2. As brutal as this sounds, if you're on the list on 7/31...blame yourself. You had the chance for the last 3 years to find something better (since the most recent major RIF) yet you stayed to live in the Sabre bubble. However, it's an opportunity to be better, so grab it with both hands. It'll be tough no doubt but then again, it's a good thing.

  3. When you leave Sabre, you're already a wise person, for you now know what not to look for in your next opportunity...backstabbing, non-existent HR, manipulation, and people with thin skins.

  4. Once the emotions die down on Monday, take a break of at least a few days to clear your head. No good comes from taking decisions when you're emotionally compromised and applying randomly for jobs does not work.

  5. Craft your personal story on how you achieved some success even at Sabre. That's more important. That's what companies look for...how well you work under stress and duress.

  6. Reach it to the ex-Sabre employees on LinkedIn who have successfully found their next gig, laid off or left on their own will. The good ones will help you out for they are the ones who understand your situation.

And a bonus one!

  1. Never bad mouth Your ex-employer even if you're laid off. Mature employers already know that layoffs happen and people like us are pawns in it. Also, if you're in dfw, Mdv, or krk, most people will understand what goes on at Sabre. So, why bad mouth to begin with? Instead focus on yourself, your family, and how you can contribute to the success of your next employer.

I get it, getting laid off is not a moment you want to remember, but what happens next is in your hands, not Sabre. Also, if you smell Another company that smells like Sabre, run away from it.

Lazy people can be found in any center, including MVD BLR DFW and KRK, so shut your mouth

The MVD center is not full of lazy people. I work with some of the nicest and very hard working people on the CSS HD supporting our largest customer and they rock! CP, JV, JR are awesome!

The MVD center is full bunch of lazy people who just sit and wait for the month to end so they can collect their salary! They should all be sent home.

You said you could not find job paid better than 1100USD/m. You have been searching for it for two long years. I don't want to be cruel but have to ask this question - what have you done to improve your skills during these years?

Guys, I had really good salary in Sabre but was laid off. I was then searching for new position outside Sabre. After few months I found it, with less salary I had previously. But I'm happy. Why? Because this is an experience which cannot be overestimated. I understood this lesson very clearly - everyone of us must constantly be on learning path, especially working for any corporation with their boring and sometimes muzzy work. At current work I have already learned much more than during few years in Sabre. I'm pretty sure that in the next year I'll be able to find really good and attractive job (and better paid).

I agree with soms of it.

Im from the MVD office, I have a decent salary here (something like 1500 dollars a month), I work hard and I get along with my team and managers yet I am supposed to be afraid because even my manager is.

I been looking for a better job for years, just because I would like to have a better life... In almost 2 years of search the best opportunity I found with my set of skills was for 1100 dollars a month, one extra day of work and little to no benefits... Let's say it is hard to find something as good as Sabre.

Some friends that left in previous layoffs found better jobs, but most agree that is pure luck in MVD...

I'm f---ed.

Good points for the exception of point 2. Don't blame yourself. Don't blame anyone. Blaming will not solve your problem..Just pull up your britches and just move on. Period. No big deal.

Nothing to be ashamed of for speaking the truth. Stay above the fray people, focus on what matters: You!

Couldn't agree with you more. Dont dwell on leaving a toxic environment, the entire HR group is ridiculous and the leaks from those who signed non disclosures will be left to try and hold their heads above the water.
