How Oracle is losing the Cloud War... Giving its sales people to the competition... I got laid off and they all want me

I was let go last QTR as sales consultant. The severance package was good and I have an offer in hand from a competitor, and in cloud and Google and AWS are interested. It like having 3 hot women who want to marry me. Who do I pick? So here is the deal, AWS and Google want Oracle's Enterprise customers. On my resume I listed all the nice enterprise deals I helped close. They get it, Oracle does not.

AWS and Google are hiring like mad. Oracle and Microsoft are laying off. Guess which companies are getting a great deal of "feet on the street" with sales people who has established relationships with customers, and which companies are losing those people... The real questions are do sales skills matter? Do technical skills matter? Do lasting relationships with the customer matter in sales? If so Oracle has made a huge blunder. And we all know (except for MH) that it matters.

Oracle has cut car allowances, bonuses, over time and then finally thousands of jobs in 2016 and 2017. The competition is picking them up. The only blunder bigger than MH "whipping the sales team into shape" is made by the people who stay behind to take the whipping. Amazon pays more than Google, but the total compensation is better than Oracle at both companies. And.. just imagine what job security feels like, not to mention respect and appreciation along with realistic sales goals... and products that actually exist, where customers can sign up the product for and play with it, kick the tires and all. Having a real cloud account you can demo as a sales consultant... just imagine.

Don't let the opportunity slip. Now is the time to get hired. If you stay behind you will be left behind. I had to get booted because I was so comfortable and knew Oracle tech so well the job was super easy.

Just remember Gandhi's quote. “When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

Remember your sales training "lets get real or lets not play" Remember what they said about cold calling? What they said about call centers, like the huge ones that are being set up in OD? They sad it was real problem solving at the customer that mattered. They said spend 90% of your time on your best customer. look what Oracle is doing. Its the exact opposite. They cold call them for on premise sales and have the field only sell cloud. Don't you think the customer want's you to address all their problems? Don't you think they will be leary of signing up for cloud with an SR open in production on premises that is not getting attention?

MH got rid of employees who now want to prove their worth. I will work twice as hard to sell cloud now, and I will have good companies and good products I can believe in.

Email From Google:

I hope Summer is treating you well! I support Google's Technical Solutions and Sales Engineering teams and was impressed when I came across your resume in our network. I noticed that you had applied for our Sales Engineering role back in June but we were unable to connect with you shortly thereafter. We are still hiring aggressively in multiple offices, so I wanted to follow up with you again to see if you'd be interested in chatting.

I completely understand that timing is everything when it comes to considering a career move, and circumstances may have changed for you recently. Google is absolutely interested in your talent though, so even in this case please let me know if you'd be open to staying in touch should you consider us down the line :)

From AWS (second round of interviews):

As part of the on-site interview we ask that you present on an area with which you have experience. The presentation should follow the attached template topics, but feel free to include additional information provided the core requirements are met and you are able to complete the presentation within one hour, including questions and answers. The template includes an optional component on how you would deploy the discussed architecture on AWS should you feel comfortable with the topic or would otherwise like the challenge. Remember we like challengers who think outside the box and we are looking for leaders as per our Leadership Principles. The format of the template is also optional, as long as you deliver the message stated in the template, your imagination is the limit.

Please send me a copy of this presentation when you are finished so that I can share with the team in advance.

Again, thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Regards,

From ME

Get off your but! What the heck are you doing? The train is leaving the station. The plane is boarding. Its last call. The hiring frenzy will end in a few months, and no one will want to leave Google or AWS. Go Go Go!!!! Get your resume and linked in updated. Apply to the jobs on the website... its that freaking easy.

Also lets show the world that good people do matter. You can't treat them this way. Lets hit MH and Oracle where it hurts, on the sales battle field. Don't give em one cloud deal. Make the revenue numbers drop.
