Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Current employee

We are currently cut to the bone at our shop and service track! The only thing that is fully manned is PTC installations. Where there were 4-5 there is now 1, left to do the work of a shop full. We totally understand cutting costs for profitability but they are ridiculous! They are losing bright young people because they won't tolerate being treated the way we are! When I started working for UP they were family oriented, now they are the polar opposite. They do not care about their employees, unless of course they get injured...since we are a liability. On their CCTV network they would tell you "if you are sick, stay home". Now if you are sick not even a DR's note can save you. We were literally told in a meeting that if we got into a car accident and could not come to work we would get an "occurrence" for it. That under any circumstance we are to be at work no matter what. But they refuse to tell us what our attendance policy actually is! That can't be legal! To fire or discipline someone for something they don't know the guidelines to! I am 1,000,000% fed up with this bulls**t company but I have to much time in and am to old to start over at another company. In my time with them I have seen every single incentive fall by the wayside. I would like to see the bonuses our shop director and lance fritz and all the other liars get every year. If even one of the managers or directors had even a hint of a backbone they would not tolerate the abuse they get on their morning calls. I've heard some jackass on the other end screaming and cussing and belittling them! That is a clear violation of this companies EEO policy and I would love to see one of them burn for it! Sorry for rambling, but I am so fed up with this crap I can barely contain myself. I stand to lose a large part of my salary in the near future! We are under constant "surveillance" and the whole culture is incredibly stressful! I feel sorry for transportation having to put up with that for far longer than mechanical has.

I was the first employee to give them the finger in the break room, after the cameras were installed. Lucky I didn't get fired, place s---s

Makes me wonder if they had to pay homeland security back for the cameras they paid for, since they were supposed to be there for "our protection" and not for keeping an eye on the employees while they're trying to take a break etc....they failed us every single time. Cars have been broken into and items stolen, but oddly enough the cameras were pointed out at the employees, mainline and service track, instead of the parking lots like they promised.
