Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Second half of October for more layoffs at Cisco

Rumors seem to be solidifying around second half of October. I can tell you what I do know.

  • Q1 numbers looking very shaky. Lots of fiddling of forecasts going on (shifting commits from Q1 to Q4).

  • Execs and PM's doing almost nothing but revenue forecasts. Constant rounds of meetings micro-managing the numbers. Sales teams getting increasingly p*ssed with the constant harping for numbers.

  • people in the US being "strongly suggested" to take vacation in Q1. There's a whole bunch of sneaky financial enigineering strategies coming out

  • Travel is almost impossible, even for director level.

  • Budgets for equipment and OPEX completely seized

There are also rumors that all accumulated PTO will be paid out at end of year and so more finance smoke and mirrors coming.

Now, ask yourself? Does this sounds like a company that IS NOT planning layoffs?

@P89UF9U-1vsm is the OP.

Cisco just laid off over 740 employees yesterday, 9/26/17. My husband was one of the software engineers who received his 30-day notice, with a final termination date of 10/26/17.

IPR doesn't seem to apply - first hand knowledge someone with IPR of 100% was told to start looking for new positions - still no confirmation of date other than "end of the month"

can we decide on the basis of IPR whether one will be LRed or not ?? For example if it is less than say .7 then probability of being LRed is more ??

Wow, thought this rumor was bogus. It is not. Some communication went out last night about significant cost cutting in a certain BU. Never a good sign.

Our SVP in SP already says the revenue goes down then the operation expense must go down. He basically tells us to anticipate a layoff. Why didn't he share his plan to reverse the trend? Does he expect to see any productivity from this point?

Nope, not happening to me.

Travel is almost impossible, even for director level.

Not a director, and I have no pushback on travel for both training and customer-facing engagements

Budgets for equipment and OPEX completely seized

Was just asked for my Q2 lab budget as usual, no caveats or pleading for austerity

So maybe you work for Sysco and not Cisco?

This sounds like YK's SPBG. Looks like cost cutting is happing across the board. Q1 forecast is -1 to -3%. I heard no LRs announced this Q because of Green Card menace; many valuable H1B employees are leaving as Cisco could not file their GC applications due to constant LRs. Its inevitable for a company with declining revenue. Embrace it or leave.
