I work in sales org.

Redundancy is probably the best thing to happen to you at Cisco. The company is so cushy it's easy to just waste the best years of you career here, only to get dumped around 40 when no one else wants you, because you've just sat in the same role for 15 years.

Here are some myths that need breaking:

  • Cisco pays well - This is not true. Most the people I've spoken to who have left have taken a 20-40% salary increase. The illusion of high salaries comes from the year you might hit accelerators. This is becoming harder to do in a business with overall declining revenues and compared to somewhere like AppDynamics where 33% of the AM's made over £1m last year, it's clear even the accelerators are not that good.

  • Cisco has the best worklife balance - This is not true either. Nearly all tech companies now offer the same levels of automony that you get at Cisco. It is no longer unique.

  • Cisco is a nice place to work - Not really. Random job loses that are not based on personal performance. A leadership team more focused on maintaining their own political positions then the performance of the company. Working for a business in decline. Offices that are too small (London) or haven't been refreshed in a decade (Bedfont).

  • You can build a career at Cisco - This is the biggest joke. Zero career opportunities for anyone with an ounce of ambition.

Cisco UK has had a serious issue with retention of high performing millennial's, for all the reasons above. There are better places to work now, the world has moved on.

Do yourself a favour and ask your manager to be on the list. Here's good luck to everyone in the next LR Lottery!

If you are an SE just go get a job at google.

If you're a PSS maybe try learning how to sell things.

If you're an AM maybe just do your number?

OP don’t worry. You’ll definitely be fine. Just remember to double down and use laser focus.

Talking about "Building trust in teams" inside Cisco. What a joke! "Your manager has got your back" or "your manager is going to stab you in the back"?

I heard a team of support engineers in the UK got the chop after asking for compensation following a reduction in their weekend work rota numbers in favour of an offshore team. Seems no-one is safe from bozo central

You shouldn't worry as long as you go to lunch with your boss , laugh at all their jokes, never question them and maintain a level of competency less than theirs. They just need to feel your love.

Some EMEAR countries have been hit this week. Looked like a massacre. Sometimes I scratch my head and wonder how the f--- some people get promoted into leadership positions...

Join the club...

A colleague was recently in SJ and he came back saying that the whole place is paralyzed by fear that nobody will be around tomorrow. Especially now that layoffs are on-going and basically secret.

Because of this approach, people have no idea who or how many are being targeted, there's no indication which units are unsafe, performance doesn't seem to matter (except higher grades are being targeted), nor any indication of how one can avoid the chop - then basically all people are worried they could get the 1:1 invite at any time. It's like Stalin's Russia from the mid-30's.

It's become a terribly toxic environment - and many are looking out for themselves. I've just seen that one of our top level engineers is going - not waiting for the axe.

Meanwhile, the ELT bozos have some cretin putting shows on Cisco TV about "building trust in teams". You couldn't make it up.
