Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Overtime Work

Peeps, let’s now try to talk about the salaried folks with a forty hour work week...

Why is it that several departments expect 60 plus hours or more ?

I’d be damn if I would work 20 hours and not get paid for it, makes sense right???

This expectation has been going on for many years and it is completely insane. You work and you do not get paid for it???

We all have choices. If you decide Micron is the only place for you to work in Boise and you don't want to move. That is your choice. You will never be happy at work and it will affect your performance. Perhaps looking outside to box a little could open the door to something else, but that is up to you. Sorry that you are in that situation.

Micron employees work tons of overtime because they are afraid of being targeted in the next layoff. So why don't they leave and work for a different company? In Boise, you have limited options. There are no other Semiconductor companies to go work for. HP is in Boise, but has been dying a slow and painful death for many years. Other high tech options are risky and don't pay well. So unless you leave Boise, your stuck at Micron working ridiculous hours.

You would have to be an idiot to work for anyone in any company for free.

I have seen rampant conflict of interest. Managers taking advantage of woman who are possibly submitting themselves (not sure if by pressure) for their job security. I am saying this because I have seen those by my one eyes, but had no time or pay more attention at that time to follow their acts and report or make a case. I was also not sure in case I report that backfires me as I was new to an industry job. I have solved many lingering issues and established new correct processes and technology transfer materials. Despite this, when the downturn came I was let go but those peoples who used to spend days doing nothing for the company survived the layoff.

I agree. Its abuse. The problem is that if your department expects 60 hrs and your putting in 40, you'll be in the next layoff. Also, if you ever disagree with Management, you'll be in the next layoff. So your left with a bunch of employees who work 60 hrs and say "yes boss" when asked to do the impossible.
