Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GRC

Not sure if this is accurate but I heard that pretty much all GRC sites will likely be eliminated. I am getting this info from a resource at a manager level, so take it with a grain of salt as it may be off. Also, I am hearing that there will be major (deep and wide) job cuts in Niskayuna - this would leave the place with ony several hundred employees - we'll see what happens there.

With this marvellous "center wide celebration" of Idelchick retirement, the last stronghold of resistance to this stupid butcher will fall and nothing of GRC will be spared...

Question, would GRC exist if GE corporate did not dictate that every business spend R&D money to X percent per year ? This business would not be able to compete on the open market. Think about it fellow PhD's ...you are smart folks. Your days are numbered! Once the GE pension are froze you have no reason to stay. It sure is not job satisfaction, benefits or pay that is keeping you there. You also see it ...GE will sell you down the road in minute if your research is not needed. Oh, wait Predix will save the day!

Well the GRC people better wake up. Vic has very few friends. He also has a knack for cutting through the b---s---. If you got big set of T**Ts you might be spared. But what do I know ...?

Clearly no layoffs or reductions would take place at GRC, only hiring and growth as the author would have you believe.

You have to marvel at the strategy and timing playbook they use. Once you know what to look for, very easy to spot these brand saving info releases to diffuse any negative news that would result from future employee cuts or site shutdowns.

Let's be clear; GRC is just the start from corporate side. Businesses will not absorb this overhead if pushed on them. Seeing combination of Power Gas / Steam new equipment and services engineering teams to reduce overall headcount including Platform / Product Mgmt, where new equipment folks will dominate teams (even though not being able to sell nor compete with Sie -8000HL, MHPS JAC and now new Doosan H+ GT Platform.....

I heard that they are definitely closing GRC In Shanghai and Munich. In fact, I heard a rumor that GE Power plans to exit Germany entirely.

They will not be running under the corporate umbrella, no matter what Vic's email says. Of course, in his emails there's just "transitioning" instead of "layoffs".

For Brazil, 2/3 were fired on the spot, 1/3 has to wrap up and document, might be gone by the end of October. Chances of finding a job in a business are tiny.

For Munich, they get some extra time because they have a worker's council there. Some small chance to be relocated to a business.

For China, I don't know the conditions, all i know is they have more chances to move to some business since they were collocated with lots of other GE employees. Heard they might be like 20 positions for the 70+ folks there

While you could claim that the GRC folks were not very efficient/productive, it's mindblowing that GE would get rid of so much expertise. Good luck finding other senior guys with 20 years experience in power electronics. Plus, some of the businesses are getting screwed, they've been investing in GRC for many years and now all that work gets lost.

Brazil was completely eliminated. Most were laid off immediately. The rest is desperately trying to save their arses.

Yes, eliminated as grcs. What I meant was that the people currently at those sites will be affected and not like they are just being moved to a business.

Munich, China and Brazil aren't being eliminated completely. They are still going to be up and running just under the Corporate umbrella - not GRC.

Well, as of yesterday's announcement here in grc niskayuna, there are only going to be two grc sites, that is niskayuna and Bangalore. All other sites, that is, munich, China and Brazil are to be eliminated. Working through the process, which is expected to finish by December this year.

If your manager's information is post this announcement, then all I can say is the end is near!!
