Dell is eating an elephant, one bite at a time. The other day I noticed on Linked-In a co-worker from the group I used to be in is now at a new position outside Dell and another person I knew that was a long term IC in DPS is now outside looking in as of sometime in August, so the cuts continue little by little with the goal of getting to a certain Opex number as well as reducing the total number of employees to a predetermined number. Now what those numbers are only MD and his cronies know but I can tell you they're closely tied to two things, profit and paying down that enormous debt load, so as long as there's a division that is in a downward spiral, i.e. storage, the cuts will continue until the bleeding stops.

Problem is, on-prem storage arrays are quickly becoming dinosaurs, chances of stemming the tide of declining sales in that division with the current portfolio is very low, it just isn't what customers are willing to purchase short and long term. You can throw as many sales resources in the mix as you want, it won't fix the real problem although it may mask it in the short term with a slight uptick in sales from having more feet on the street beating the bushes for every last possible opportunity although most of those aren't going to be big $ deals.

Bottom line is the previous post about keeping the government out of it as well as avoiding negative publicity is really why Dell is doing the small cuts across the board. Media knows this is happening but as long as the advertising $ keeps flowing they'll gladly look the other way and continue to tell the world that all is well within the Dell empire, even downplaying the departure of high level execs regardless of the real circumstances of the separation.

Doing everything at once gets the gov't involved. They don't want that, or the publicity.

Hang in there... or not.
