Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why wouldn't Chevron rehire laid off Chevron employees?

My manager's manager assured me that when business picked back up that I would be called back. Maybe they lied. Does everyone really believe that laid off employees were poor performers? And why would someone from another company want to leave to come work for Chevron?

Some people prefer smaller companies. I was laid off and was very passionate and dedicated about my work. I worked many hours outside of regular hours. It's frustrating to have earned three college degrees, and give my devotion to the company only to be told I am not worth anything. It doesn't make sense that my career should be over. It's emotionally challenging, because I haven't secured other employment yet.

Not my post, I just bumping @PlTuZ6P-6kii as it deserves a separate thread

The bad attitudes here are pretty gross and rather disturbing. I'm certainly above this.

There's a fairly pre-eminent dog eat dog culture here. You only have to read these posts to see that. The resentful, the dishonest, the aggrieved, the downtrodden, the immature, the belligerent, etc......they are all here.

If i had known i would be laid off and out of work for so long, i would have saved more and been more frugal while employed. Probably could have had enough to reasonably retire if i hadnt blown so much money.

It is pretty much standard policy at most companies to not hire back laid off professionals. You have a better chance to find employment at a new company. You can look up articles on the internet as to why this is done. A good percentage of lay offs are not performance related, but more closely tied to salary, project/department budget cuts, personality intangibles, office politics and just plain bad luck. Laid off employees could be perceived as having a bad attitude and a risk to be rehired. It is best to move on.

Look at it like school, especially with the likes of Chevron.

You have the pack of bullies who play on all the sport steams, know the teachers and decide who is an easy and acceptable target and who should be persecuted.

You became a target of someone with immunity or 'part of the club' picked you out and sent you on your way. Your performance, achievements and education had nothing to do with a forced ranking system such as CVXs. Why would you want to go back to a culture that sees you that way? There is a real world of professional adults outside of Chevron. I would go and partake. Forget about the bully filled playground and the people who THINK they have impunity.

Chevron laid you off for a reason, like it or not or be it fair or not. That’s the main reason no one at Chevron will likely rehire you again. Best move on from Chevron and don't look back.

People in this business are mostly disingenuous so don't hang on too much to what people say or you'll be disappointed.
