Project Nickel Performance and 2017 STI

65% of STI is awarded if Molina meets the budgeted financial goals for 2017.

35% of STI will be awarded partially on meeting Project Nickel financial goals and partially on individual contributions to Project Nickel during 2017. The remainder of this document will relate to the 35% portion of STI.

• $175M savings will pay 10% of the 35%

• $225M savings will pay 20% of the 35%

• $275M+ savings will pay 30% of the 35% (if this is achieved bonus pool will increase 5%)


Manager Training manuel for the impacted worker

Conduct each conversation with the Molina standard of dignity and respect

Offer your full attention to each person (turn off cell phones, forward office phone calls, and close laptops)

Focus on the person being notified, avoiding personal apologies or equivocal language

Be empathic and understanding of each person’s reaction; each person may react differently, requiring differing amounts of time to process information

Consult checklist and FAQs prior to notifications for details

Hold conversations as with a trusted colleague

Conversations should be private, away from team if possible

Conversations to be brief (15-20 min)

Reiterate timing for Knowledge Transfer completion and content needed

Be available for follow-up questions and concerns—Ask for personal email and cell phone number to be reached if necessary


Script to use on employees offered a new comparable role

Molina is undergoing organizational redesign following challenging financial performance in an uncertain market

During this process we

  1. Expanded your [role, team, responsibility,] to include xxx. OR

  2. Have identified the following new position for you

Your salary for 2017 will not be affected until the annual review in the fall

IF individual indicates that they don't want the new role

  1. Note specific concerns

  2. "We will take your concerns under advisement in further redesign to see how we can address them"

IF individual indicates they would like a higher compensation or job level

  1. Molina is currently in a tough financial position and we are currently not in a position to offer more compensation

  2. In Q4 of this year, HR will conduct a comprehensive compensation and pay level review to align better with job equity and competition. Your compensation may or may not change based on that exercise

Severance, benefit continuation and other facts

Wage and benefit continuation

Most employees' term date will be 10/1/17, or later in some special cases

Employees remain active in HR Connect for salary and benefits continuation during WARN period

Severance Agreements

Revised severance guidelines for Project Nickel

Transitional Assistance amount per months of severance, based on position level

Employees are not to sign severance agreement until term date has passed

WARN – Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act

Only applies at this time to CA MHI and MMM employees

Requires notification letter to employees

Requires notification to state and local government agencies and elected officials

Just want to thank the original poster - this explains everything.

I am less anxious now, I know what to expect.

I am 99% sure I'll be let go, and going into the slaughter chamber is not as frightening any more (after reading this post).

I too was let go on 9/14/17 and experienced the same treatment - no empathy at all - the VP and Director seemed happy to tell me my "position" was being eliminated.

This is great information. I was let go on 9/14/17 and was perplexed on why the VP was not apologetic and almost giddy at times. Did not thank me for my many years of service.
