The lump sum severance won't get triggered until after you sign the release, and it will take about a week after your last day to receive that. Then you have a 7 day window after mailing the release back to change your mind. It also takes appx. 2 weeks after O receives the signed release to process the severance payment. So basically, you have around 3 weeks before that severance gets direct deposited. I doubt whether you have any negotiation ability for changing the lump sum payment. If your location falls into a WARN action, however, you'll be kept on payroll for 60 days and don't receive the lump sum balance until after that.

I'm not signed up for delivery notifications (because I have no burning desire to know a day or hours in advance if my number is up). However I am betting my number is probably up based on harsh realities of the road map. I've known for a while. Sooooo .....

Does anyone know if it's possible to arrange for a non lump sum severance? I'm in the final stages of going for an internal opportunity but there is no way an offer would be tendered prior to tomorrow. I don't want to get into the messy business of truing up severance if I accept an internal offer after getting RIFed. Anyone know how this works?
