Spoke to a longtime friend from Digital design group, excellent engineer and leader, after more than 20 years he left, the reason:
Too much BS and management doing nothing for the employees, many layers of political crap, and bunch of useless people. Apple appreciate experienced and innovative engineers, that is why many of the good engineers going there.

Apple's corporate culture is no better than Q's. I know enough people there who are having their life force s---ed out of them by a company that doesn't give a sh-- about their employees' health or families, and the amount of infighting and backstabbing is legendary. Apple has only one advantage: They pay better (if you are a top top top performer). If that is what you need to feel appreciated, then go there. If you actually want to BE appreciated, go look for another company altogether.
True to say that Qualcomm is not going to be the one it used to be. But I don't think Qualcomm will be removed from the landscape. It will be smaller but it will be still there. Maybe it will take the wind in next decade. Who knows?
The OP's assessment is accurate about both Qualcomm and Apple. Unfortunate but true... Q is drowning in incompetence and competitors, mainly Apple, are using the opportunity to pluck away the best who have been the backbone of Q's success. You can ignore the facts, continue to live in your fantasy world and proclaim everything is rosy at Q but reality will catch up with you eventually.
