Thread regarding GE Renewable Energy layoffs

Onshore Wind Layoffs within 3 Weeks

I learned from my HR manager today that we will be laying off hundreds of people in The US and began preparing us for the conversations.

Here is the narrative spun:

  • we need to invest in new products and increase margin

Here is what all leaders know:

  • this is a knee jerk reaction to the budget meeting with Flannery.

  • Anne McEntee destroyed this business and she gets to destroy a new services business

  • Paris HQ is artificially a ‘lean’ HQ because they bury cost in this business.

  • HQ is trying to survive as a location by consolidating operations. However, it’s led by someone who bankrupted the Alstom Renewable business

As Pete mentioned in his Q&A this week. Most likely to give notices before end of November so that those impacted will be off the books starting in 2018. A couple managers that I asked felt timing would be similar as their budgets for 2018 are being cut.

They have to make it Lean... just so many people. Its not healthy. Just cut 20% of organization - nothing would happen to revenue or developments. It will actually be fast. US guys have big mouth but less efficiency.
