Nationwide today and Nationwide two decades ago is not the same company. This has become a cesspool of nepotism where good people who know their jobs and have been with the company for decades are being let go while the management's friends and family sit safely as they continue to play games on their phones. People might think I am exaggerating, but I am truly not. Just look at our vision, we have been unable to articulate a proper vision for the company for years now, because we are led by a bunch of incompetents and their entourage. Not to mention, if you try to voice a concern about the behavior of somebody in the management, you will pretty much paint a target on your back while the entire complaint will be swept under the rug. I truly believe that the latest round of layoffs is only the start, because this kind of leadership can't sustain a company of this size. Unless something changes drastically, we'll just continue our downward spiral, and hardworking employees will pay for it with their jobs.

I worked at Nationwide for almost 20 years, and can attest to the truthfulness of this post. As for any notion of an impending corporate demise, keep in mind the company's core products are either mandated by law (p&c products) or coerced by tax code (investment vehicles) upon "consumers". The level of dysfunction you've described should not be surprising in businesses sustained by the artificial life support of (relatively) captive customers.
I seriously thought my husband had posted this truth. Everyday I hear how, If you play golf with the boss and can be my drinking buddy you are golden at Nationwide. Playing games, watching YouTube, etc on their phone and on the company computer is a everyday ocurrance. Start the day at 7 am, fire up the computer, leave the desk for breakfast and visit w/friends until 9 am, then fire up the phone for a day of play. Working from home? Log on and play online games all day. I’ll be glad when Nationwide is behind us. Beware of this company.
Going on everywhere, not just Nationwide. Read "Latest Posts" for proof.
It's more than Nepotism too. It's a big club and you're not in it. Those who are in it recognize each other and show favortism.
