Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Layoffs through "innovation"

I'm always fascinated at the wording Humana higher-ups will come up with to mask their mistakes and layoffs. My latest favorite is calling the changes being implemented right now "innovation" when it's actually a direct result of poor planning. And as a result, a bunch of people already lost and more will lose their jobs and those left will have their roles changed drastically with more work piled up on them. But hey, they are innovating!

While your fears of supporting your family are understood and quite rational, the expectation that your employer provide you with stability is not based in reality, especially in the health insurance industry. If you want stability, it might be time to change professions.

Studies have proven that those who complain or play victim have a higher incidence of depression and physical symptoms/illnesses. It doesn't help your situation. Nor does it change your situation. Playing the blame game, in the end, will have an adverse effect on you!

We are saying the blaming is misdirected and unproductive. It doesn’t change anything. Wanting a stable environment is true for everyone but it’s a pipe dream. The business climate changes fast in all industries, esp healthcare. No one is guaranteed a job for life in any industry or level. All I am trying to say is don’t get so caught up in the blame game and victimization tendencies. It doesn’t do you any good or change anything.

Not sure how wanting to be in a stable environment and wanting to continue to have the ability to provide for my family is wanting my hand held. Not sure how not wanting to live in fear of losing my job every other month is me acting like a baby.

Exactly previous poster! So tired of this blame game! There is reason the earlier leaders are not here. HAH has been trying to dig out of the hole created, yet the majority here like to blame everything on the current leadership, calling them names and making fun of their appearances like we are on a middle school playground. Most don't understand business and feel if they are not having their hands held and egos stroked that management is the devil incarnate. It's just not so! Call me a management lackey, a butt kisser, whatever. I have as much to lose as everyone else, but I put my big girl panties on and decided to face this layoff with dignity and maturity. This layoff is happening no differently than any other corporation.

The people who did the poor planning are no longer with the company. The original leadership team that designed the model and strategy are the ones to blame. The clinical leaders before WF are to blame. There were parts of the model that never made sense or worked well at a financial or operational level. The cost of the program was way too high and roi was low. The changes being made are needed. Blame the old leadership. But they are all gone.
