Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

No planned layoff for greenville

General Electric in Greenville South Carolina has hourly production workers that have human resource meetings every month. The past few weeks they have had a meeting every week. On wednesdays. Human Resources has just let them know that there are no plans for an hourly production layoff. There will be plenty of people moving to different areas and maybe different shifts, but no hourly production worker layoff has been planned. New make is in a hole but there is a large amount of repair. More than we can handle in my opinion in some areas. This is where people will be moved. Further information to come on November 7th for all employee meeting. Good day.

@Q270z3O-2ovo, you have been very quiet lately. Are you starting to believe? LOL! The alarmist words are coming from your dumb GE leaders.

@Q270z3O-2ovo, unfortunately my post was proven correct rather fast. I’m not going to call being correct with such bad news a victory.

“No planned layoffs for Greenville” is without a doubt, FAKE NEWS.

I was laid off from GE last year. Got a folder with a white sticker that had my name on it. The paperwork obviously does have to be reviewed by legal long before it is handed over to the employees who are getting laid off. Earlier poster is correct that this doesn't happen overnight.

There was a complete list of the ages ans job titles of everyone who wasn't laid off. This was to prevent us from suing GE for discrimination. Ie: "We kept people of all ages and due to their specific skill sets, so don't even think about saying we laid you off due to age, poor performance, or favoritism." This is why good performers get laid off too. GE cares more about not being sued than keeping talent.

@Q270z3O-2ovo, names have been identified and reviewed by legal. Engineering will be impacted more than manufacturing. Salaried, as usual, is the primary target. Hourly will be offered TLO soon. GE Prefers to surprise people with a “confidential discussion” meeting on the layoff day. Managers come in early that day and police are asked to provide additional security. The process of laying someone off at GE doesn’t take place overnight. The good news is the local Greenville economy is busting at the seams with job opportunities. GE offers really good career placement services so take advantage of it. This is a stressful time but can create really good opportunities for you. At least this is happening in a good economy.

Not only do you not know who or how many, you do not know if any names have been identified at all, or if there is even a plan yet as to how to proceed. Please stop with the alarmist nonsense and post facts...

Q270z3O-2nlv, just to clarify, I never stated who or how many. You are correct that I do not know who or how many. However, names have already been identified and the white folders with layoff documents have been completed. My hope is not to create fear and drama but to allow people to prepare.

@Q270z3O-2nlv, We will all know very soon if my statement is BS. I’m just glad we have a written statement on this blog. My details are accurate all the way down to the white folders with the names on the front. White stickers with about size 14 font.

@2lss whether GE lays off or not is irrelevant in determining the “fakeness” of your posts. You have no idea who, how many, or if individual determinations have been made at this point. Your post was designed to create drama based on made-up bs, under pretense that you have some top secret insider info (which you don’t). That is the very definition of FAKE NEWS!

GE’s attorneys have already reviewed the layoff documents assigned to each victim. Your name is already printed on the front of the white folder full of layoff information and legal documents for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to contact unemployment the same day of your termination or you will not receive either your unemployment check or your layoff benefit check. You will have one week called a wait week that you will get nothing from either.

The All Employee Meeting Monday will be worthless as usual. The plant manager will mention the “soft market” and show the cash flow challenge but will try to put a positive spin on moving people around to repair. They will also pat themselves on the back for bringing in the LMS100 even though that is almost over. They’ve been polishing the their stupid PowerPoint all week and practicing talking point answers for any tough questions that may be asked. In other words the All Employee Meeting will be a complete waste of time as usual.

The pain will be wide spread, union or otherwise. Your just a number to GE. And yes, the decisions have been finalized, they just haven't been disseminated. The only rat bastard that got out unscathed is that POS Immelt, so when you get your pink slip, hit him up. He left with plenty.

On the hourly basis, some people will probably be moved to different areas where the work is but personally I don’t see a layoff anytime soon, too many contractors coming in on a daily basis in the repair side and even then they will layoff contractors and backfill those positions with GE employees before they would layoff full time employees, people on this thread just worry too much and start their own rumors which then go around the shop floor, if your that worried start saving your money, Greenville has plenty of jobs going you could be layed off Friday and start a new job Monday

Stokes did a video answering top questions. I watched it 3 freaking times and am more confused than before watching it. He basically blabbered on for 10 minutes w/out actually answering anything. He dodged the RIF timing question altogether by repeating the “we are consulting with the appropriate agencies as per law” bs. No consultation is required to layoff US based salaried employees numbskull! This is what the question was about!

Don't act like the all employee meeting will tell us anything. They will avoid questions at any cost. They know how to spin a web. We will come out most likely knowing less than when we went in.

Greenville has the same benefits as a union plant minus the union dues. Being non-union is why we will not be working at Wendy’s.

Not having a Union is why your job is just a little better than working at wendys

I predict a lot of political “talking points” in Monday’s meeting in Greenville with an attempt at a positive spin. Repair work will be talked about as our saving grace. Farming in new work from other plants may be discussed depending on announcement timing in other plants. I predict that everyone walking out of the meeting will realize it was just a turd polishing exercise.

Not having a union is the reason Greenville is getting new work, preventing a layoff. SCHY, with its union, will get massacred. Be sure to thank your union rep on the way to the employment office.

Miss profit by 50% in Power and only at 20% capacity of the factory for new units in 2018? Don't fool yourself, GE can't survive with that much OH.

We all here at Greenville have been waiting for a layoff. All I'm saying is if they do have a layoff of hourly employees, there will be major disruption after HR has confirmed no plan for one. Like I said more information to come on Monday. It seems here everything is subject to change but with all the details they gave about the situation I would be surprised to see a layoff.
