Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Employee of Macy's

I have been reading past Post's of employees current and past that have complained of being mistreated as an employee. Macy's expects a lot from their employees, they need to come to work when scheduled, be on time and do their jobs. Ummmmmm, wow, bad deal.

@3fpz You are correct. There are some bad things to come. Don't ask me how I know. I just know & I won't reveal the details even on an anonymous site. All I can say is put yourself 1st and if an opportunity comes take it. Don't stay loyal just because it's the holiday season ....

I don't know what it is about layoffs but they do seem to affect the hard workers not the stand around types. In my store, age is a factor. Actually years of service but it becomes the same thing.

Some of the frustrated posters here are responding to working a physically demanding job and noticing that it's a whole lot easier to have good ideas when you are sitting at a desk.

its obvious that you must be living under a rock. Please be sure that their are more cuts to come. The quarterly meeting is being setup right now and we will see really how bad it is for the company.

I came to this site looking for company down sizing info.....I am shocked by the nasty replies by employees. One comment in particular assuming someone has a "cush" job if they do their job. You are all working in a place that you selected. By the sounds of it you are lucky Macy's or any company hired you. Have you ever heard of paying your dues. Working up from the bottom, Learning the trade. There will be days where your feet and legs are swollen and you feel like you can't walk another step.....that comes with the job. I have 2 kids to support and I thank God for job at Macy's. Not every Manager is perfect or coworker. Better look at your horrible attitudes. Surprise layoffs? Yes, that happens these days everywhere. If it happens to me......well I think I will be thankful for the knowledge I have gained and apply it in another job.

"Macy's expects a lot from their employees, they need to come to work when scheduled, be on time and do their jobs. Ummmmmm, wow, bad deal."

Either you are pretending to not understand the typical associate hired by Macy's, or you are really just that naive and haven't been with the company long enough to have seen how it works. I have never met a truly dedicated associate (or manager for that matter) who always comes to work, always does EVERYTHING that is expected of him/her - stays late, recovers, does fulfillment religiously, is always striving to make magic, gets a ton of credit and TFS or sells whatever gimmick is on this week, limits their breaks to those properly allowed, etc. - who isn't quickly irritated and pissed at their peer who doesn't observe the same dedication. It is a slippery slope, and it happens REALLY FAST when you work your butt off and watch your co-worker NOT, yet they remain employed, and make the same pay that you do. And this isn't a tier thing, i.e., it is exclusive to the Associates - it's a Macy's thing from the bottom up to the District. And, the surprise layoffs somehow NEVER strike those who actually DO NOT do their jobs . . . it's always someone who has devoted several years to Macy's in my experience.

So, spare me your sanctimonious "if you just did your job" spiel - the reality is that just doing your job is a matter of personal ethics, not a basis for a successful career at Macy's. That personal satisfaction and maybe a hollow "atta' boy" from an SM now and again, or a magic card with a piece of candy taped to it is really all that one gets in return for showing up. I guarantee that you could totally slack, start calling out and stand around chit-chatting with the adjacent department and still have a working door code to the employee entrance.

"WOW...UMMMMMM", You must be the perfect Macys Employee that works's their schedule ,comes to work on time ......And thinks your doing your job!!! It's obvious that you have a cush position or, locked away in a safe office . Before you go home from your store are you dizzy from running around the whole store dealing with customer complaints, redirecting new and lazy associate, recovery, seeking out young new SM texting in a corner..."..busted", they have a fake smile...glad your here attitude oh...they need your help recovery there area , because they were missing in action until 20 minutes before store closing and are overwhelmed , ready to burst into tears because it's not fair they don't have enough help. tonight your the shoulder to cry on and tomorrow they will throw you under the bus. When you walk out of the building is your head trobbing, feet burning, you backs hurts from recovery, dry mouth and a full bladder...."I think not...start working and, join the team..we are waiting!!!!"

Older employees are not being let go first. Where I work the store is full of them. As far as feeling in secure, a sign of the times . As long as retail is reinventing itself, it will be this way.

I've read the posts here too & what struck me was the lack of people scheduled for the amount of work, older & higher paid employees getting laid off 1st & general job insecurity due to surprise layoffs. YMMV.
