Is engineering for renewable energy ( folks in Brookfield) expected to be impacted ? Or just the gas turbine ones ? (GTTC, GTTL)

Good luck to all. I have a really bad feeling on this one. My job was once done by only 3 people at GE in total. With the Alstom integration, we now have 12 people doing that same function w/the same amount of work. In fact, myself and another engineer were put under a manager in Baden (we are in Greenville). See you all at the Employment Office!

@1stn thank you for making factual statements, and for adding the disclaimers. This is basically what I’ve heard as well, that no early outs will be offered, and that cuts will be deep and soon in engineering...like you will know by Dec.1 if you are cut.

Not sure where the rumor about 1st quarter furlough came from, but that's not what was said in the all employee meeting today. The part about 30% reduction on the salary side is true. Hourly production people will be moved around on an as needed basis "temporarily ". The contractors who are currently there will be replaced by GE people. The word temporarily was used A LOT. When asked what that means we were told 6 months. When asked about anything after that the answer was basically "We don't know yet". So I guess I've got 6 months to job hunt, and avoid the rush. Hope it works out better than that, but it doesn't look good.

Oh, let me guess , this fake news as well. No surprise about possible furlough. This was done in Schenectady years ago when things got slow. Best of luck folks.

In Greenville, the salaried manufacturing employees were told all would have to reapply for jobs and out of those employees, only 70% will be rehired with the other 30% being laid off. And there is no guarantee of retaining their existing job if they are retained as part of the 70%. So, even if the hourly manufacturing employees were told for now there would be no loss of jobs, REALLY??? How can that many salaried manufactured employees lose their jobs and with upcoming cuts in work load, how can GE manufacturing hourly go into 2018 with low work loads, etc... and NOT be affected??? This next part I’m stating is the current rumor for manufacturing that most of the manufacturing plant will be furloughed in 2018 1st qtr - that is not something that is confirmed. The next statements are fact because I was there with my team : This week, Greenville HR advised our engineering managers to talk to their teams to let the engineers that head count reduction notifications would begin in the next couple of weeks. That this head count reduction would be a major loss of jobs. When we asked our manager if a percentage or number could be confirmed or a more definite timeline for notice, we were told that could not be confirmed for us. Which we found odd, considering the manufacturing salary side did mention a certain percentage. We were also told that no early retirement packages would be offered to salaried engineers this time either. We asked how we would know if we are part of the headcount reduction and we were told it would be as it was March 23rd this year- the affected employee would receive a confidential meeting notice from HR and at that meeting the severance package and notice would be given. Our manager couldn’t answer how much working notice was guaranteed but if like the March layoff, at least 4 weeks minimum. And folks, that’s all I know for certain at this point.

If we don't sign sales contracts in the next 30-60 days there will be little to work on by 3Q, 2018 so don't breath a sign of relief yet.

Dont rejoice yet guys. Just earlier this year in March when the company laid off over 300 salary workers the plant manager assured there wouldn't be anymore cuts yet, here we are again with salaried cuts. The Power industry is not solid enough to be confident so the reality for everyone is there is NO job security for ANYONE. Including the plant manager, salaried AND hourly employees. Best bet is to start applying to other industries. You'll eventually be glad you did.
