Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

The real travesty is Bruce Brossard's and other executive pay as well as BOD

Layoffs long overdue, but the real travesty is the executive and BOD pay structure at Humana -- and probably other health carriers as well. While the market is suffering, Brucey and the other executives are getting surreal amounts of money. I am a capitalist, but the executive and BOD pay is pure greed. How many of them are getting walked off the property?

While I am a capitalist, ceo / bod salaries are out of wack. They are paid enormous sums whether or not they are successful. Golden parachutes are the norm. In Humana case, Bruce will be paid a millions to ultimately sell off the company piece by piece.

It is beyond compensation...it is greed.

The word just isn’t this way. The board and ceo needs to make and increase profit for the shareholders or the shareholders will go away. If people stop investing in Humana, our ability to grow stops and then there would massive layoffs anyways. Your emotions and lack of knowledge of the market economy are making it even worse. You will continue to be a victim till you educate yourself on business and concentrate on having a plan B at all times

That argument is so knee jerk and cliche. Welcome to capitalism and the world of publically traded companies. If you don’t like it, go work for a non profit. Or get an mba and become a ceo. He’s doing his job and he is there to maximize shareholder return. Most people couldn’t function in his role for two minutes.

But if B.B. or any higher ups got laid off they most likely would not have financial problems

You do realize that the salaries of 1300 employees totals probably more than 60 million a year, based on an average pay of 50k per employee. That doesnt include benefits. Yes Bb makes way too much but cutting his salary and the rest of the exec board would not help.

He is making 20 million a year with incentives to earn more. Imagine if the executive board took a small pay decrease to allow others to keep their jobs to provide food for their families instead of getting laid off.
